After scoring a Jaguar from MF this past Saturday, I've been pretty stoked. First brand new bass for me since 2000, and a pretty cool one at that.
Fast-forward....thanks to UPS tracking, I knew the package would arrive sometime today. Sure enough, I hear Brown Santa rolling up the street, so I jump down a flight of stairs to get the door. Brown Santa's already gone by this time, all I see are the bass and amp boxes on my steps. Excitement's rising.
I put the amp box in a corner, to inspect later. No need for a practice amp, even with all the cool features...my Pandora already fills the bill in that category. I take the bass box upstairs to the guest room, since my room did not have a suitable spot for birthing a new bass.
Ripping open the seams, I come upon an exposed headstock. Not a good sign. I notice the strings are loose too...maybe they detuned to ship? I take out the small guitar box inside the outer box....the headstock flops as I grab the neck. Panic ensues.
Pulling off the white foam, I see the carnage and just about cry. The last time I shed tears was when they brought back the McRib, and when Jim and Pam find out they're going to have a baby. But these tears are different.
Words cannot describe the disappointment. Today was supposed to be a day of glorious tunes and tweaking. Instead, we mourn.
Thanks for sticking with me thus far...I suppose this is my way of mourning. Photos are below, and I'll update on the claims process. At best, I can hope for enough money to buy a new neck (if they're even available). At the worst, I can expect to be left with only the dream of a white Jaguar.
Warning: Content not appropriate for the weak, elderly, small children under the age of 10, and any sort of musician. Please ignore the shaky pictures, since my hands were trembling with both anger and sadness.
Oh, the humanity.
