Ever seen a dead Jaguar?

Start checking the other retailers (e.g., GC, Music123, ZZounds, AMS, etc.) and see if they have one MF/UPS can buy for you.

GC, Music123, ZZounds, and AMS either don't have it at all, or don't have it in white. In either case, MF said that they are only allowed to order from Fender...so if I found it somewhere else, they can give me my money back so that I can buy it at the other source.

MF just called back, gave me these options:

1) Return bass (on their dime) for a full refund.
2) Contact Fender and get a new neck through the lifetime warranty replacement policy.

I'm hoping option 2 works...I have to go read the fine print now and see exactly what is covered by the warranty, but my understanding is that warranties usually cover manufacturer defects only...

My experience with MF customer service has always been excellent. They will notify UPS to come back and pick up the bass. You will need to repackage the bass in the original packaging and leave it for UPS to pick up - or deliver it to UPS yourself. Once UPS picks up the bass they will notify MF they have it. At this point (probably within 24 hours of when they pick it up from you) the negotiations will begin between UPS and MF to determine who was at fault. In the meantime, MF's excellent customer service (again, IME) will offer to refund your entire price, including shipping, or replace it with an identical one at no charge to you.

The key, obviously, is good communications. Talk to someone at MF on the phone. Get their name. Get an RMA (return material authorization) number. Call them again to let them know UPS has picked the repackaged item up from you. Call them again a day later to ask the status of your refund/replacement.

One more time: MF customer service is excellent, IME. Communicate well with them and you should have a new bass - or your money back - well before Labor Day.

It came from the manufacturer['s authorized representative] and was delivered to you in a defective condition, so the warranty should cover it, but I have found warranty replacement to be a slower process.

Good luck, sorry to see all that. I'll add a Jag to the harem someday, prob the red one (duh!), tho the others are purty.

Thanks everyone for the tips, esp Scott and Red. Waiting to hear back from Fender to see if they'll be able to ship me a new neck and control plate...if it's a no-go, I'll probably see if MF will send me one in black...not my first choice, but a bass is better than no bass.

Man, that sucks!!! I have a Jag on the way and I was bummed when I found out that MF is using UPS to ship it. Mine isn't scheduled to be delivered until the 10th.

Here is my initial post from a thread that I started on another forum at the end of May:

UPS...0 for 2 this week!

I know that people have had every shipping company out there destroy something, but for me in my location UPS is by far the worst. 95-99% of all packages that I receive that were shipped using UPS arrive beat up.

The worst was a Adirondack chair that my wife ordered a few years ago. We received a bundle of splintered wood with tape wrapped around the wood and a reprinted label attached. When I contacted the company that she bought the chair from they assured me that the chair was in fact shipped in a box and when it left them there was also a bag with the hardware in that box. They sent us a new chair via FedEx.

Here is a pic of two packages shipped via UPS that arrived this past week on separate days.

Wow.. I'm glad I will be leaving UPS the end of next month, this is rather embarrassing.

I'm guessing your bass was either stepped on by an employee, fell off of something (like the tippity top of an overloaded bulk cart), or somebody threw a heavy package on top of it (probably in a feeder)... anything is possible, so maybe a lift did drive over it, but the above scenarios are more likely.

MF will hopefully make some noise over this one. UPS is scared &#&#less about losing big contracts, especially now. They almost lost their accounts with Technicolor and Apple due to negligence and theft (respectively), and they really can't afford to lose anybody right now.

You've done right by dealing with MF, and by all means express to them you are extremely angry with UPS, not them. That'll eventually make an impact.

I went through MF, like everyone said, and am currently waiting on Fender. Reading through their warranty, it doesn't look like I'll be covered, due to point 7:

"All other damage and deterioration due to normal usage, wear and tear, aging, accidents, neglect, abuse, or acts of Nature."

I can see them saying this is an "accident" or "neglect".

Technically, Fender has nothing to do with your problem, you just need to get a new neck from them. They're certainly not responsible for your situation, so I would try and work on the MF angle again and press for them to contact Fender regarding payment for a new neck. They really shouldn't have directed you in the Fender warranty direction for something like this.

Just get your money back man! You don't want some banged up bass - get that $$$ and start looking/waiting for that new jag - you'll find it and have the bass of your dreams in the condition you deserve.

I would...but very few Jags are left to be had...and finally seeing a white one in person has made me want it even more.

LOOK AT THE PACKAGE.

The box and the cracks in the neck show that sucker was dropped straight down on something i cant belive the UPS driver even dropped it off that thing is obviously broke by just looking at the box.

So sorry

and now we wait to see what my white jag looks like

BTW UPS broke a squier strat i bought 8 months ago i got a full refund through the company

Finally called MF.

Mine will be here tomorrow.

lets play a game .

a bass goes kansas to texas and ends up like well the above.

Same style bass even in the same color shipped the same day by probably the same crew goes from kansas to oregon.

How many pieces will mine be?

now over 24 hours of thinking about it.

I had the run around with them for for 4 months

I hate UPS and will not give them any biz.

Push on them hard and talk to attorney if this does not get resolved in X time and let them know that.
