Every movie is terrible.

Just because someone believes an average person acts a certain way doesn't mean that's actually how the average guy acts. IME the average person does watch several types of movies. This may not have been the case before streaming, but it is now. Your average 25 yr old person may fit into the "fast and furious only" mold, but not your average 35 yr old. I believe this fits the music and television media as well.

I guess I'm just not getting the point you're trying to make.

I don't give the average consumer very much credit because the average consumer typically doesn't take the effort to find something better than what they currently have, which is often what is spoonfed (I hate words like this btw, it makes me sound like an edgy teenager) to them. You're telling me I'm wrong and I'm not giving the average consumer enough credit?

Is that the gist of it?

Yeah, although I'm only going on my personal experience so I wouldn't say you are wrong. People who I've known as, let's say not the most demanding of consumers, are finding new entertainment due to video streaming. So IMO people who only watch what's in their theaters are becoming the rarity.

Fair enough.

I'll start giving the average everyday consumer a lot more credit when we go one year without people asking me if I enjoyed the super bowl commercials. Since the beginning of advertisements, we've all despised them during all other viewing, but somehow we as a society allowed advertisement companies to convince us that the ones during this one particular block of television are totally worth watching and are going to be great. Bunch of hogwash.

I used to watch anything and everything in high school. I didn't care if it was supposed to be good or bad. I went because I liked eating popcorn, drinking soda and being entertained by something. I grew out of that mentality early in my 20s as I started finding more work on bass and dating.

Nowadays, it's impossible to get me to go to a movie or even to rent. I jokingly tell my wife about having commitment issues, but that the thought of wasting two hours of time on a bad movie is truly a travesty.

Yeah, I’ve gone from avid movie watcher 10 years ago to browsing Netflix, looking for whatever cookie-cutter garbage nonsense crud that looks most tolerable at the moment.
What compels you to waste your time watching subpar films? I don't understand those voluntarily doing something that isn't enjoyable. Unless it's your only of decompressing after a long day, there's gotta be better alternatives.

I go to the theater maybe once a year, every other year, but that's only because those chairs are hell on my back. I wait until they're streaming or cheap on demand.

The last one I saw was American Made on HBO. It was fantastic. Unless you like super hero movies I can't name another great movie recently. But Cruise was amazing and that movie rocked.

Speaking of high school movie antics... Remember when laser pointers were a thing? Like every movie some jerk had one. Haven't seen one in a decade or two.

Then there was the throwing of candy at strangers. I feel like these days that'd be a lawsuit. I had a friend take a pee in the theater and let it run down the slope. You could hear people yell something out as the urine flowed.

Another friend bought one of those weird, gross gooey candies that came in a squeeze tube and came out thicker than shampoo. He emptied that thing on the seats in front of us. No one sat there but the next showing? No idea. Wasnt ever me, but groups at movies were like a crazy mob with an armory full of candy and bodily fluids. I'd say those were the days, but we were jerks.

One time we pissed off some big guy who followed us out to where my dad was to pick us up. Dude was really mad and kept yelling "you want beef? You dont want this beef! You can't handle my beef!" My dad still remembers that line. It was kinda funny at the time.

Fortunately he was a lot bigger than the guy we pissed off or someone would've probably gotten beaten up. Kids are stupid. I was no exception. But the laser pointers were just a step too much. Wonder if kids still do this kind of stuff at movies.

I would say that on average, I make it through about ~10 minutes into any given movie. My wife and I are currently making our way through Tremé, but sometimes my nostalgia for horror films gets the best of me and I try to seek something out, but it’s all garbage. On the other hand, I am reading and playing bass more again!

I'm looking forward to Sorrry To Bother You. Going to see it tomorrow.
I wanna see that too. It looks different, and that’s saying a lot these days. I just hope it’s not outrageous for the sake of outrageousness but is actually different and clever and unpredictable.

I saw Sicario last week and it was great. The ending wasn’t predictable. That’s really important.

"The Florida Project" was quite good.

Very small, low budget film done expertly.

I can’t find any showtimes near me in New York but you’re getting it in Texas? That’s odd.

Actually it’s playing in one place in Brooklyn. What the hell? Are theaters scared of it?

According to boxofficemojo.com Sorry To Bother You opened today 7/6 on only 16 “select” screens in the entire country. It opens wide on 7/13.

There are a couple movie theaters in the area that are huge and fairly new. National chains.
I just don't like the experience of going. I find them to be dirty and gross for the most part.
Sure, someone comes in and sweeps the aisles between showings usually, but it's still gross to me.
I'll pass, but it's not because of the perceived quality of the movie.

I’m exaggerating but not by much. I see every movie that comes out. I like the movie going experience and I have moviepass and the time. Almost all of them are terrible. It’s like no one watches these things before they’re released to the theaters. Bad dialogue. Bad stories. Bad acting. Predictable. Cliche. Boring. I’ve seen every movie that’s come out since I got moviepass three months ago and almost every one of them has been god awful. It makes me feel pity for aspiring film makers that might have good ideas and will never achieve success while garbage movies make millions, exceed their budgets, and untalented hacks get rich. Carry on. Happy America day.
Yup, this is why I am pretty selective about the movies I see. Of course, my taste is probably different than that of others. Not better, not worse just what I like.
My last movie at a theater was "Incredibles 2" liked that one. My next movie will probably be "Mister Rogers."
I like the movie going experience too, and I always pick up my trash. The seats get more comfy all the time, if I see a really boring movie I might fall asleep.

That last movie I really enjoyed was Wind River, otherwise I can't think of anything memorable for the last few years.
I've succumbed to just watching old Star Trek shows over again:
Voyager (last month)
DS9 (underway)
TNG (next)

Once upon a time I'd try to find a movie worth watching on Amazon Prime, but that proves a difficult task for some time now.
It wasn't bad back when they had HBO originals on there, but now that's a add-on service.
