can anybody that has used them before and tell me abot the tone and quality?

Is there a particular model you are asking about? I wanted to get a B5E but couldn't find one locally. I did play the F5E and the D5. Both are fairly similary.. Build quality was great, contours are quite unique, and the value is exceptional, but the neck's felt a bit generic, and the pickups sounded a bit flat..

for the price you aren't going to go wrong man.. i don't think there is a bass out there with the amount of features for that price.. for me, i went looking with a ~$700 cap and then I think there are a few contenders out there in that range. But, for $400 or whatever, it is a steal.

Other basses that I feel are fairly similar are the Ibanez SR 5 series and the Schecter Stilettos. They both retail for more but I think they are marked up more so you can shop them down within a reasonable distance to the D4.

ESP LTD has some nice choices for a good price. The pickups are generally either ESP stock, which are alright (nothing exciting, accentuated mids for rock) or EMG, which sound fairly similar whatever bass you are playing I used to have an F404, and loved it.
