My handle on Usenet is Jammadave so I kept it for here.
-Started because I collect arcade machines, actually: (techie stuff) JAMMA is a wiring standard introduced in about 1985 by the Japanese Amusement Machines Manufacturers Association. The standard allows you to change games by just swapping out the main circuit board and not having to change anything else. It has since evolved with the advent of more buttons and such on arcade games, like the 5 on Mortal Kombat and 6 on Street Fighter II. (/techie stuff)
-I applied it to my name when I bought my first JAMMA-compatible machine and turned to Usenet for more info.
-I then applied the name elsewhere because, hey, I "jamma" on musical instruments, and used to "jamma" people with needles to draw pretty pictures on them.
-Real name is Dave Dixon
Other nicks used in various forums with funny stories:
- "The Other Guy" because people would email my about my old band, asking if I was the cute guy with the long hair. Nope, I'm The Other Guy *sigh*.
- "Ford Prefect" sometimes as "Ford Prefekt", after the Hitchhiker's Guide series. Why? Because the guy who played FP in the BBC TV version of said series, was named David Dixon, just like me.
- "Spike" around the office for the last 5 years, for the same reason as TB's Spike, although my hair hasn't been spikey in years.
Whoo - there ya go! That was longer than expected.
