Jeez, that looks great! I was very curious about the overall size of the body, and it appears to be pretty comfortable looking (unless you're a very small guy)
Does the nut spacing bother you at all, so far?
Congrats![]()
Hi!
Thanks so much for being so stereotypical in your stereotyping!
How refreshing!
:scowl:
...you haven't heard any ONE of us in a gigging situation. Until you have, keep your OPINION on it's leash, hmmkay?
FYI, my background is in old-school Motown, Cajun (grew up in NOLA), and Latin (I was the road bassist for Tito Puente, Jr for 2 years) musics, with a great love of things like Rush and progressive (REALLY progressive) rock, as well as jazz.
My goal is singular when I play: Make the ladies dance.
I choose to do that with a 6 most times (I also own an NS Design CR5M), but that has no bearing on how I play, and I'd thank you to keep that in mind as you open your mouth (or hit the "Submit Reply" button) in the future.
Thanks.
I'm a very big guy (6'5", 250 pounds) and I've been having some issues lately with the trend towards smaller bodies on so many basses. But that looks like a really comfortable (size proportionate) body. Not quite sure I know what you mean by the body question, maybe a little more details? The bass is comfortable and sounds great, however the nut spacing- I shouldv'e thought out a little more, I can play it fine but I couldv'e made it a little more accessable in the lower range. Fast passages that I used to do without much thought are a teeny but more difficult now. Actually I'm going to have Kevin build me another one thats going to be MUCH more thought out with some major and minor changes. All n' all a good experience and now I know exactly what to do on the next ERB, there ARE a few do's and dont's there.

I would think some more tapering at the nut would be beneficial ... even though I'm one of those players that rarely spends too much time by the nut. But it does look very cool, and having done some preliminary pricing from the Krapsters, a whale of a bargain ...

Seeing as how Krappys are so inexpensive to begin with, would it still be feasible to send it back and have the nut changed out and the neck shaved to meet the new nut width?
Dude, Dude, take it easy on me, bro! The point I was trying to make was that a four or a five was generally sufficient for getting the job done in light of the advent of all these beautiful new basses we have today with six strings or more. I have enormous respect for John Patitucci, Anthony Jackson and many other six-and-uppers. All I was trying to say is that one doesn't necessarily NEED more than four to take care of business. I'm not implying that anyone with more than four is (just!) a showman. Hope I clears things up.
Actually, my friend, I'm more intrigued with your experience with Tito. That's really cool! I'd like to know more about that and I'm guessing many others would as well! Thanks for the feedback.

Well, I'd just much rather do another one, shaving the neck width near the headstock would cause big problems with the tuning seeing where the pegs are the pull would be at the wrong angle.
The fact that the strings have such a small amount of pull is actually what made me think the alterations could be done so easily- you could easily take a half inch off of the nut without adding much angle to the strings at all- they'd still have less pull than a lot of companies out there.
...OK, I'll put my beatin' stick away...
You have to understand, most of us have been derided over our choice of instrument, heck, I'm picked on a bit at my day gig now, and we BUILD 'em! (...it's all in "good fun", but still, at the end of the day, it's got an element of personal opinion that irritates in it...)
As for why I use a 6, it's simple: I'm lazy! I like having everything in one position when I can.
On TP Jr, not much to say, it was fun, covered a lot of his dad's catalog, did a few of "his" things (which were more latin-pop-ish). It was a good experience, he was a decent dude, can't say the same about his management though. He could have made a pretty lucrative career out of it (not to mention giving me a steady playing paying gig), but the guy he got tied up with for management ended up booking him singing to TRACKS...sad.
I did get to play with several horn players that had worked with Sr., THAT was cool. And I found out that my Nawlins background was VERY helpful in playing latin grooves (second line = clave, just with everyone playing the clave!).
Gard,
How long have you been in Nawlins? Did you ever come across Chuck Bergeron or Rick Margitza?
My wife and I were there a couple years ago and went to the Snug Harbor (and, of course, Preservation Hall).
Being from Detroit, I appreciate our musical heritage, but yours goes back a lot farther!
Take care, my friend. I hope our paths will cross soon.

Really, I'll look into it but I'd be worried about that F#, what nut material would be good?
Good gravy, I weigh 1/2 of you.![]()
