Extended Range Bass (Club??) Thread

Nah, I got rid of it for a reason. Detuned 5-6 strings (in my price range, my budget's really timid) sound like mudfudge, plus the really thin, wide neck irritated a mild case of tendonitis I've been battling with for years. I wanted a seven string as well but I really need my hands to work painlessly... I'm even selling my fave five string! :hmm: It seems I should be heading over to the 4 string club! :ninja:

if you still have your 5's, they qualify. :)

Still have my 5'ers,...and,..still have my GT-7, buyer is flopping on me. Having huge sellers remorse right now,...and I haven't even sold her yet!!:rollno: Who knows, will just have to see what the bass gods of fate wind up dealing me,.....maybe I'll just devise a stand to mount her on,...only trouble would be the base would have to weigh about 50lbs to keep her from toppling over I think,...lol...anyway,...still in the club,...for a while at least! :bassist:

thought i'd post a pic of the stable :D

the forrest of bass!

The white fretless in your pick looks huge, must weight a ton!
or is it juss my eyes twitching :ninja:

it is pretty thick - it's a hollowbody. not very heavy - actually one of my ligher basses. was a wedding gift from my wife :D

Also id be curious to see the inlay work on the one last to the right of the rack :)

not sure which one you mean, either the ritter...

or you mean the doubleneck...

LOL, any ideas in mind or just wishing for another? I'd like to entertain the idea of some sort of P/J or J/J non-octave fretless 8 with some sort of polyester finish on the FB. Probably will try to get another fretless 8 before that, most likely a Cliff Bordwell with a MM-style pickup and extended FB.

i would really like bill to build me a melted top 7 string flying v - sort of a jackson-ish one, with the sharp points, as opposed to the classic rounded end one.

with 28 frets and 2 MM pickups. woo. he's done a 7 string v before, looked sweet.

Would you do some sort of compensated strap button? I can't imagine playing something as wide as a 7 with a short/no top horn. The 'ol left hand is getting crampy just thinking about that!

I thought the V that Conklin did was pointy, although I'm not sure if it made it to the new website, which is alright, but lacks a lot of the historic basses. I have no qualms with the look of pointy instruments, although they tend to chip easily. Something about a mean looking instrument that needs to be treated delicately seems like a contradiction.

pointy v's are cool. in fact, a man catcher 7 would be rockin.

i use belt leather straps, so i never deal with an kind of headstock dive, tbh. the bottom of the strap is swede-ish and it just catches on my shoulder.

Cool? Definitely. Practical? Not as much. Back in my metal days, I wanted nothing more than Jackson and BC Rich guitars. Perhaps I'm entirely too anal retentive with keeping my basses in almost pristine condition and the inevitable point chipping is a bit much for my OCD. :D

What really got me was the size of the cases. I think I recall my drummer's brother's gutiarist having a Washburn Dimebolt with a case about as long and a little wider than my usual bass cases. As we loaded stuff for a gig, I was amazed how heavy the dern thing was. Much heavier than my bass case and about twice as heavy as the regular guitar cases.

Yeah, but you know heavy equals tone.:ninja:

More heavy, more tone.
