With the exception of grabbing a Rob Allen Mouse some day, I don't think I'll be playing less than six strings anymore.

Thank you pointbass for the great post. So many wonderful instruments to view.

I was lucky enough to try five stringed basses in the '70's, record with them in the 80's, and have my own since '91. My current bass has been nearly everywhere with me. It's a Washburn XS-5 refitted with an EMG-J set.

The concert picture here is from a series of shows I did at Theatre Krakeling in Amsterdam, Holland back in 2000.

I wish all the players the best and to continue to grow on their chosen instruments.

I just finalized an agreement with Barker Vertical Bass to have the first 6 string Barker built. I've been playing a fretless 5 string B1 for the past 2 1/2 years and have been essentially begging Lee Barker to build me a fretless 6 .... he's finally agreed to do it :hyper:

I'll keep a running update of the build on the Barker Bass forum here at TB, but here's a few pics of the wood selected for the body:

It's anticipated to be about a total 4 month turnaround time with all things considered .....

Thanks :D

Yes, it is a curly fir, pretty unique figuring compared to most firs. The bass will be natural colored and will look like a typical Barker but with some changes to the neck pocket and body length to accomodate the longer 35" scale and wider neck.

I had thought about getting a 7 instead of the 6, but for the situations I use the Barker in a 6 is fine ... I have no need for either the lower F# or higher F, but I have been sorely missing the B-C range using only the 5 string.

I have to settle on a neck over the next week or two, probably going to pirate a Brice 6 since I greatly prefer that neck profile as compared to anything from Warmoth. Planning on a passive configuration with Bartolini P2's ....

When I first joined the ERB club, all I had were 5 string basses. I would now like to present to you my newest aquisition:

A Carvin LB76

Also, a friend of mine got a Conklin GT7 and he let me play it today. That thing was amazing! I was very impressed with it. I don't think I could handle a 7 string bass...but man, it made me think about it for a bit!
