i really like the Brice Sterling Bass, a steal for 300 dollars, has a nice growl to it. It plays like a dream, and the finish is very pretty, now it is one of my main players

no, it is Alder with a very nice Bubinga finish
you get the looks without the weight

i know this isn't the "string" section of tb. but i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on some good 6 string sets.

D'Addario
Webstrings
SIT
Carvin (which are made by Labella)
Ernie Ball

I've used DR with great success on all my basses-they remain my favorite string. Just don't get the Long Necks unless you have the ability to string through the body.

D'addario makes good strings, but they don't last as long as DRs.

I've got a Bongo 6 on loan to me that sounds great with the stock strings, but I haven't tried them on any of my other basses. Surprisingly, said Bongo also sounds fantastic with TI flats, if you want to go that route.

I haven't tried SIT, Webstrings, or Labella.

I've played about every make of string that's been wound over the last 29 years... I'm now using LaBella exclusively. Hard Rockin Steels on my 4, 6 and 7 and Deep Talkin Flats on my 5. The last a long time, sound as good as any and feel great.

Continued progress on my Barker Vertical Bass 6 string

The "donor" bass arrived at BVB in Oregon and has been dismantled. The body woods have been selected and work is underway. Here's a pic of the wood with the neck placed on top ....

I have a 82 Ibanez Blazer setup as a Subcontra tuned C F Bd Ed, I tried having it at BEAD for a while but it was a little TOO floppy for me.

Wait, is it tuned to a low C as on a contrabass (as AJ calls it) (C1 32.70) or the subcontra low C (C0 16.35)?

Subcontra low C (C0 16.35), the string is .195.

The more I play in this tuning the more fun it gets, it is like a mountain of solid earthquaking funk!
