Extended Range Bass (Club??) Thread

You might want to talk to the guys at www.octave4plus.com regarding that C4 string. From looking at their gauges and the suggested notes, I think the .015 will be too thick. The .011 might be just about right.

Pretty rude of me not to thank you for the advice about Octave4plus right away, but better late than never.:D

I gave Mr. Goodman my requirements for the one string (a C4 octave string @ 33", for my dual-course twelve project).
His efforts went WAY above and beyond what I had a right to expect:

He thoroughly answered every question.
He tested different gages at the required scale and pitch, and gave a critique for how the gages felt/performed -

-for one string!

AND the string's (bridge) end was wrapped to match the silk on my Smith Burners!
I ordered several (.012) C4 strings, and for good measure, Garry added the test string as well!
So Kudos, Octave4plus!:hyper:
It ends up I went with my original plan on 11 of the 12 (dual-course) strings:
Lower Octave:
-Set, Smith Burner Mediums - C.030– G.045 –D.065 – A.085 – E.105 – B.130
Higher Octave:
-Single Otave4plus - - - - - - C.012
-Set, Smith Burner Piccolo - - - - - - G.020– D.030 – A.040 – E.050
-Single Smith Burner - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - (sold as D) B.065

Rather simple question but hoping for some ideas. I’ve struggled to find stands that are lightweight, stable, with wide enough neck cradles for ERBs and ideally adjustable for less regular shapes. I use a Techra stand at the moment for my SEI 8 string, it’s OK & lightweight but is not that stable and does not have a neck cradle. My SEI 9 string will be finished soon and I am thinking about stands again.

What do you all use?

I know that some of the players in this thread are relatively new to ERB's, so it's quite possible that you've never seen a Conklin MEU 7 string. Denson Angulo just recently posted some pics and info at extendedrangebassist.com, so I thought I'd throw the pics in here:

This has always been a very interesting instrument to me, basically a strap-on upright (MEU = Mobile Electric Upright I think ... something like that). I don't know a great deal about these basses, and very few were made, but it's a cool looking axe.

Perhaps John Turner knows a bit more about these basses ...

teehee yep that's mine... so can i be a member of your little cluby?

here's a pic of my other conks

Well, I logged in to Harmony Central for the first time last week and saw you had a zillion posts there, so I guess it's only a TB hiatus :D

I'm still trying to cop the reverb sound you have on "My Eyes" with my Boss VF-1. What unit did you use with it?

Bassius - Wonderful trio of Conklins you have there :D

I made one (which is remarkable considering my low-level DIY skills).

I found the design here http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-pvc-multiple-guitar-stand/. Using this as a base, I got the materials together from B&Q and made a 9 space stand which comfortably holds my basses and assorted guitars. I made the neck support part longer so it accommodates the ERB's as well. My 9 fits in it without modification !

Someone also took the same idea and made a single stand model http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-PVC-guitar-stand/

May not be the most elegant solution though :D

i have a digitech reverb unit but i dont like it anymore....wanna buy it :)

There are really only two things stopping me from seriously checking out a 7+ string.
-Styling
-Price

I must say there are many nice ERB, but almost none are nice to look at (This is just me) except for a few conklins and the Peavey Cirrus.
I repeat, for emphasis, Peavey Cirrus.
The bodies are unique, and if that's your deal, I won't tell you it's wrong because I'd never build a better one. But there's just no such thing as an 8-string P-bass. (Somebody PLEASE prove me wrong.)

Plus there are no affordable ones. I mean, a Squier 5-string is all that's in my budget, but still it's almost twice what I paid for my Fender.

I'm also scared to ask for a Northern Ash body, no top cap, and maple fretboard.
I mean, I've never seen an ERB like that.

If anyone can lead me to an affordable 6/7+, I'd be happy to know.
