what do you guys think of it? any opinions?
The HXB 6's are a decent entry level bass. Certainly playable and okay for gigging, kind of what you'd expect for a bargain-priced instrument.

I've had a few of these over the past several years and was generally pleased with them. I really like the necks, which are on the thinner side. The hardware is a definite improvement from the stuff on the Rondo SX line, especially the bridge. Pickups are middle of the road, decent output but not a lot of tonal variation from the preamp (I stuck an Audere pre in one of them and the tone improved dramatically). I actually prefered the passive tone .... :)

To keep the pricing down, Brice has sacrificed in a few areas. The "quilted" finish is a super thin veneer layer. I didn't care for the body contour on the edges, as you can see in the pics it's pretty much just squared off. Strap pegs are not the best quality (I switched over to Dunlop Straplocks, but the screw holes were deeper than the dunlop screws so be careful to ensure that the screw gets a good bite on the wood). Unless something has changed, the strings were not of a high quality. And, for me, very tight string spacing (16mm), although some like it that way ;)

Overall, a good bass to get comfortable with. A couple sort of minor upgrades (strings, strap pegs) will really help, and a new pre amp if you think it needs it, and you'll be good to go ....

Here's my new six string i'm waiting on ups to deliver!

A little while ago I posted that I was having a 9 string SEI bass made for me. I got to pick it up last week and it is just brilliant. Beautiful appearance (imho), wonderfully low action, superb sound and so easy to play. Whilst it will not be to the liking of many on Talkbass, I figured you guys would enjoy the pictures:

Woahhhhhh!!!!

Just a superb instrument!! I think that makes at least four 9 string basses made in the UK. 1 Fleeting, 2 ACG and now a Sei. I don't think that qualifies as a major shift from 4 strings!!

I really enjoy playing a 9 and find myself jumping around the instrument, finding different ideas to go with whatever I'm listening to at the time.

....and so the fun begins!!

All, thanks so much for the kind comments about the SEI 9.

Tonally it was designed around the classic fingerstyle funk tone which it absolutely nails, but the combination of the Delano 'Musicman' style pickup and the flexible Audere circuitry means it can go anywhere from a deep Jazz type tone through to a very reasonable slap tone. The Graptech acoustic guitar (not bass) module provides a great acoustic guitar sound on the top 6 strings (tuned D-D) and midi output ensure plenty of other options.

I'm afraid I'm a live player only and do not possess any of the equipment or knowledge to create sound / video samples for posting on the Intranet. Sorry...

There's also at least one Chris Larkin 9-string bass made. He's from the UK isn't he? Or somewhere on those islands..... the 9-string is owned by Norwegian bass player Freddy Samsonstuen. It has fanned frets and RMC piezo pickups, and it's headless.... very nice!
