Not as amazing as the Sei a few posts up, but my Skjold is done (picking it up tonight):

I'll get some better pics up once it's in my hands.

Jim Fleeting has built 2 to date.
I have an order for a 10 string which if I get it done should be the first built in the UK as far as I know,if not I am sure some one will let me know otherwise.

Wasn't sure if that was a 5 pairs of strings or a big 10 :bassist:

There's also at least one Chris Larkin 9-string bass made. He's from the UK isn't he? Or somewhere on those islands..... the 9-string is owned by Norwegian bass player Freddy Samsonstuen. It has fanned frets and RMC piezo pickups, and it's headless.... very nice!

Chris Larkin's in County Kerry in Eire. Damn fine luthier with a great reputation.

Hey guys, I have a question.

I cant decide between an MTD KZ6 and a Ibanez BTB 1206 (the Prestige line).

The Ibby has a full Bartolini electronics, pickups and preamp, but the MTD could be easily upgraded, and is a bit more my style.

But I dig the looks of the BTB too! It keeps pulling me back in right when I think I dont want an Ibanez.

Any tips?

And for anyone who saw my thread about a VS. a few 6ers, they all either sold, or are too expensive. :D Thus why Im asking you guys.

Thanks!

Few questions first:

1.Which as a better feel in your hands? (that's if you tried them)

2.How would you upgrade the mtd and how much would it cost of your time/money, that vs. the already "packed" Btb.

I'm sure this could help people to try guiding you.

3.Is brand really important? Z vs Btb, The Z only has the mtd name imo, the sound doesnt come with it, but yes it looks better

It will also depend on your own preferences ... string spacing (I think the MTD is wider by a bit), scale length (both 34's?), what tuning you'll be using (B-C, F#-G, something else?) ....

Like Ziltoid said, if at all possible put your hands on as many as you can. I know that may not be easy with 6+ string gear, but where possible try to get a feel for the different brands you are considering. Something I like you may hate, and vice-versa.

IMO, for the two you mentioned, the BTB is the better built of the two and likely no monkeying around with the components will be required ....

just to toss my personal prefs into the mix, i'm not really much into barts.

that being said, the btb's are well made basses. don't slag on em just because of the name and the sometimes-perpetuated crap that ibanez gets. ibanez makes a lot of good gear, and has for a long time. i know a lot of folks that have pro gigs with those basses.

But Both are nice axes as Darkstrike stated so don't sweat to much over it.

Going out on limb is always stressing, I've been pretty damn lucky with my schecter studio 6, i love it
