I also play 4 strings tuned to BEAD, if that counts for anything, lol.

And I'm 29 :)

If it's any comfort, try to think of it as you're only 30 instead of already 30 (the idea comes from some really old guy I saw on TV once claiming he was only 90).

Anyway, this gets me thinking, what's the average age of ERB players? Maybe a poll would be in order?

I'm 48. If most of the members here are younger than me and the average age is younger, will that put me in the "above average" crowd? :D

i'm 25 and got my first 6 string when i was around 20 ish. never wanted to play anything else till i saw mr turner's collection of 7 strings.

what is a good, relatively inexpensive 7 to start off with? where do i get one. i have never seen one in a store.

But at least you still have your boyish good looks and charm ... ;)

[insert girlish giggle here]

A used Conklin GT-7 (around $600-$900) or a used Conklin GT-BD7 (around $850-$1200). The GT-BD7 is a better bass, but harder to come by.

The GT-7's are one of the best 7 string bargains out there ... a very giggable bass, extremely well made. There is nothing else even close to the quality for the money, especially in the used market. They show up on the 'nasty Bay regularly.

Galveston makes a 7 that retails at $500-$600, you can occassionally find them used for $350-$400. The more recent versions of the Galveston UB-7000 show an improvement in quality control as compared to the older versions from 4 or 5 years ago.

The other pretty low cost option is Antoniotsai or Brucewiert (sp?), the Chinese import brand with the inlay work. After shipping, these basses are also around $600 ... again, check out Ebay.

Of these three, the only bass that is guaranteed to be immediately playable is the Conklin ... both Galveston and Antoniotsai need some set-up and adjustment work at a minimum ...

Probably, but then it would put us younglings in the 'below average' crowd. So I'll disagree just to patronize myself :D

This statement should be carved on a stone tablet and buried as a legacy to future generations.

I can only say the best about GTBD 7 after having it for five or six hours :D
But it isn't relatively inexpensive (then again, it depends on your budget) but it think BassCentral has some used ones.
