Facebook

I know you're kidding around, but you're still sort of missing the point. Talkbass IS a social networking site, it's just an older format. Posting on a forum about how you don't use social networking sites is like calling someone on your Motorola Razr to inform them you don't ever use a cellphone. It's even MORE ridiculous when someone states that Facebook is full of pointless updates from a forum filled with threads where the point is to converse in 3 word blips, post "funny pics," or discuss your favorite "junk food." Especially when facebook is made up solely of people that YOU as the user choose.

So pick interesting people, pages, and groups to friend/subscribe to and your facebook will be full of interesting things. If someone doesn't want to utilize Facebook, I could care less, but don't say that facebook is full of "stupid updates" or people saying "I just took a poop" because facebook is full of whatever YOU choose for it to be full of... having a facebook stream full of updates you don't want to read is sort of the internet equivalent of punching yourself in the face for no reason. Furthermore, going on other social networking sites and COMPLAINING that "facebook is full of pointless status updates" is like walking into a bar and complaining to the patrons there that you hate the bar down the street because every time you go there you punch yourself in the face.

I didnt say "I dont use social networking" I said I dont use facebook. I can also choose which threads to read and which people Id like to converse with on TB. I understand that web forums are just older forms of social networking. I have no problem with that. And thats a horrible analogy, imo.

In Matticus's case, I thought we were talking simply about Facebook.

I find Talkbass 100x more interesting anyway. :)

I was. And I do as well.

Not that Facebook doesn't have issues, but the problem isn't really Facebook--it's people. People suck. Always have, always will. We ruin everything. Yay us!

:D

As a species I might agree, at a personal level maybe not so much.

It is what it is but I've never really been that interested in Facebook, the friends I like to keep in contact with, I have their numbers. Each to their own, I know quite a few people who opted out of it though for various reasons.

Love Talkbass, despise Facebook.

- So tired of hearing about my idiot friends hangnails, "oh boohoo I'm not feeling well today", sappy messages to BFs/GFs that make me wanna blow chunks, morons that think they're funny, photoshopped pics that dummies believe as real, uninteresting stories they tell me "OMG you have to read this"...

...and the seemingly never ending competition of "OMG this is the saddest video ever!"

I just use it as a newsfeed. I "Like" the bands, authors, tv shows, etc. I already find interesting. Any of those things that use FB will post updates. From that I get a custom-made newsfeed. Works for me. I spend about 15 minutes scrolling through the newsfeed while I watch TV. For example, had I not "Liked" Robin Trower, I would not have known he was coming to my town. I still missed his show unfortunately, %$#&^, but at least FB provided a vehicle to at least find out about it.

In my case, I only have about 40 friends. Fortunately, only a few of them post silly updates.
