FAIL!! Schaller Strap Locks

Apparently the nut wasn't tightened up.
If it was it wouldn't have rotated around.

Apparently the nut works itself loose. That’s an unacceptable eventuality I will not live with

Do the rubber washers work when you throw the bass around?

I doubt there's enough data for you to rely on lol If throwing your bass around is part of your normal routine, you should do the "permanent" metal washer approach -- that's the most reliability you can get (but the obvious possible inconvenience of not being able take the strap off). And with rubber washers you have to make sure the bore is small enough that it won't slip off on its own. Hence the popularity of Grolsch gaskets -- the seem to be perfect for a lot of strap buttons. And if Brian May has never found a reason to dump 'em, that's a pretty good vote of confidence...but I don't think he ever does throws the Red Special

Also, if it hasn't been said, one thing I do immediately with every instrument I get is take the strap buttons out, fill the holes with water-thin super glue, wait a few minutes, then put the screws back in. It hardens the wood, and gives a little gluing power on the screw when it fully dries (but not enough to prevent you from getting the screw out later). I've found that helps prevent the screw holes from stripping out, and prevents the screws from slowing working/wiggling their way out.

I have Schallers on all my basses, and have never had a problem. They need tightening now and again, but I check often. Before I started using them I did have a strap come off a couple of times, so don’t agree that they’re solving a problem that doesn’t exist.

Those that have had issues, including the OP, are they definitely Schaller branded ones? Just checking, because there are loads of much cheaper knock-offs on Amazon and eBay etc that are listed as ‘Schaller strap locks’ but what they really mean is Schaller-style strap locks.

The new Schaller S-Lock has what they call a "Lock-Wheel" which locks the threaded part onto the strap with a set screw.

I bought a set for a new bass and new strap that I just bought, and they also fit the Fender branded, (made by Schaller) locking buttons that came stock on my Fender American Deluxe basses.

I've just been using the red rubber washers from Grolsch bottles for several years. Never have I had any kind of strap issue. Also, there's the added benefit of enjoying the contents of their containers.

On my bass build, I bought some D'Addario strap pins, which look like this:

It's very difficult to get my leather strap off now, which is the point. That said, my other basses have regular round strap buttons and using leather straps I've never had a strap come loose.
