Mark Perry said:+1 Wasn't Jim Martin (guitarist) chucked out for being a bit on the egotistical side? I'm a big fan of King for a day - probably their most eclectic album (altough i only own that and angel dust).

TrooperFarva said:I don't think I'd say Mike Patton has an ego. I saw a video of him eating garbage on stage once. I always thought of him as fairly average, as far as egos are concerned.

If I had to rank them I'd got like this:
AotY
KfaD
Angeldust
TRT
IY
WCA
More or less the reverse order of they releases.
Also, if anyone hasn't already had a chance to check out the b-sides and rarities that haven't been released (The Big Kahuna, Light up and Let Go... etc) GREAT STUFF!!!!!!
msquared said:He may not be an amazing technique monster, but he comes up with bass parts which sound great in the context of what the rest of the band is doing. And of course all of that is a matter of opinion, but Billy Gould being inspring or favored as a bass player is a pretty widely held one.

He is a testament to what rock bass playing should be, something that stands out enough to be worth listening to, but not screaming, "Check out this wanktacular line I wrote." That whole band is a testament to what a rock band should be. Everyone who has ever played in that band has been very talented, yet cared very little about stroking their own ego with uber-technical parts that detract from the song as a whole. His playing is great because he had the chops to do so much more, but he realized any parts other than the one's he played would say so much less. Not to mention that he wrote the vast majority of the later songs.
Matt Till said:I was going to say something, but then Adam already said it. Basically, if you don't like Billy Gould, you don't like rock bass.
Matt Till said:Don't overlook Faith No More as a band, and Billy Gould's amazing bass playing. Get the entire album Angel Dust, you won't regret it.

I think he once told me in an email that Angel Dust was also recorded with his Aria, although I could've sworn the bass in "RV" sounds too clean to be the Aria. But I guess the master himself knows best.FaithNoMan said:I still like Billy's older, Gibson tone from the first two albums, and the Aria tone from The Real Thing
