Fame Baphomet vs. Warwick RockBass Corvette

Bear in mind that these two basses sound quite different one from another, despite the fact both used Mec's pickups.In terms of building quality Fame wins any ways,but on other hand,Corvette has growl to death.From what i have remember (tried on Musicstore a few years ago),Fame has got some kind "faster" neck to me at least.Just use your ears ,if you think that Corvette is for you,there is nothing wrong to save money and get German one(second hand).In term of resale value,the Fame is better option.Good luck.

Okay after a quick read of the Fame basses, here’s what I’m seeing that’s unique.

These are more similar to Mayones than Warwick, with the MEC pickups. The headstock is also very similar to Mayones. (I own both Mayones and Warwick basses)

The body design is similar to the Streamer (not Corvette) and it says the body has an arched back, which is more similar to the Mayones or Streamer or Thumb not the Corvette, which is a slab body.

The Fame looks to be much higher quality in terms of build and woods used versus a Rockbass.

I would definitely go with this over the Rockbass for sure. Good luck with your decision!

The Fame basses are made in Gdańsk, Poland. IIRC, they are built in the same factory as Mayones, just under ownership of a German company. So you’ll get super high quality in them.

My 2¢, I just don’t like the bridge they use. It’s alright and will do its job, it’s just not a great one…

I’m stuck between two basses:

1) Warwick RockBass Corvette $$ 4

P.S: I know my Warwick choice has humbuckers instead of single coils. I personally have never played a bass with humbuckers so from my experience I don’t know how they sound like but listening to them on YouTube they sound so much punchier and have a great growl compared to the regular Warwick RockBass Corvette 4 with single coil jazz bass pickups.

This is a bit odd, like I said above - similar to Mayones, but did they ripoff the Mayones web site too??? This is a little confusing…

They have not ripped off anything, as Mayones has licensed the Fame guitars and basses and they are made in the M-guitars workshop in Gdansk. This is what I read on the internet.

Yep, understood - I stand corrected, as I was not aware of that at the time that I made the comment and had just looked at their site and saw ‘Mayones’ on their site.

Since these are made in the Mayones factory, then definitely would be super high quality workmanship. I love my Mayones.

I read on google reviews, somebody posted saying that the workshop does not sell any pieces they make but they have basses and guitars. I’m hoping maybe they allow testing their products out? I can take a trip to Gdansk that’s not a problem.

does anyone have this information? it would very cool to have the option to try them before ordering them

Just shoot a phone call to them, maybe also mention this thread and your idea of buying one of their basses so you would like to try one and making a factory tour: 99% chances are they will open the doors to you and allow you to test a bass or two...

I'm not a luthier, just some idiot on the internet, but the tuners for the A and D strings on that FAME bass look like they're almost touching. Seems like it would at least be obnoxious to restring, and maybe a structural weak point in the headstock (again, not a luthier so take this with the appropriate grain of salt.)

It does look nice, though. I guess the question is how easy is it to return if you get it and don't like it once it's in your hands?

They're not touching. The tuners on Mayones (parent builder) and Warwicks are angled back like this.

These look very cool and for the price I wouldnt hesitate to order one. I kinda want to try one out now as well.

I got lucky several years back on a new rockbass corvette. It plays great but it was only like $300 and I haven't found another that feels as good. I have no plans in selling it anytime soon but I also wouldn't buy one at today's prices when you can get a MIG for a little bit more.

Not crazy at all about the model name, but the gold & silver 4-strings are gorgeous!

Mayones is a reputable maker, so I would definitely anticipate these instruments gaining traction in the near future...

Oh, and if someone accuses Fame of ripping-off Warwick, I'll just have to point out that Warwick's main shapes (Thumb, Streamer, Corvette) are all slightly-tweaked rip-offs of the Spector NS.

They did a great job of incorporating design elements of the Streamer, Thumb and Mayones Patriot body designs... refining great design elements from each of these into a new ergonomic body... looks great to me.

The intent is to keep straight lines from the nut to the tuners, looks like they've achieved that.
