Used Roscoes are very affordable. The guy who got mine had it up on eBay recently. Used sixes are usually well under $2k

Really? Excellent. I was playing one a few days ago (a Roscoe 6), and wow, i love the spalted purpleheart fingerboard. Cool tone. Definitely what im getting for a 6...when i get one. Just laid down a couple thousand for the Modulus (well, not me), so im not buying within the next few months. But i also like their 7 strings. Im kinda the John Turnerish type...more strings the better. Im not sure what i should do! Having a 9 stringer (Warrior makes an awesome one) would be cool, but geez, theyre huge. But even at my age, my hands can handle it, because theyre pretty huge. HEY JT, WHATS YOUR OPINION?

anyway, i've played some roscoes, and i thought they were pretty nice, a few years back i almost bought a 6 that had lane poors in it to use as a backup, but i ended up getting another conklin (their mid-priced New Century Session model - killer bass that cost me less than the roscoe would've).

however, i think, since you asked

, that you should check out the groove tools Bill Dickens model 7 string, or else the groove tools gt7. if you like them, but would like some more customized design or woods, check out the conklin custom instruments. imo, conklin _is_ the custom shop, anything is available. bill one time did a 7 string jazz bass, with the same kind of neck and body and even the headstock. while i don't know why anybody would _want_ something like that, it was cool.

conklin made the first 9 strings, he made an 11 string about 4 years ago that i played (it was a 7 string with the top 4 strings doubled - very cool sound, had piezos with seperate outs for the doubled strings along with magnetics), he's made fanned fret basses including a pretty cool 8 string fanned fret lined fretless (down to low F#), and he's probably made over 500 7-string basses by hand in his shop (not counting the groove tools, which are made in korea).

so i think you should check out conklin.

After owning P bass, Jazz, Yamahas, Modulus, Peavey TL-5, Carvin, Lakland, and now an MTD, I still have to say that the Fender Jazz body is a classic favorite. The testament is the number of other companies that copied that body style. Lakland - Joe Osborn, Sadowsky, Mike Lull, Hamer, Fernandez, and the list goes on....

Oh yeah I agree!

But then again my Warwick is also a very nice bass, it "hugs" my belly!

A cross between the Jazz bass shape and the Spector/Warwick arched front and back would be ideal for me.

For me, the Fender Jazz body is classy and classic, and while its image is everywhere I never seem to tire of looking at it (kind of like Katherine Hepburn.)

I also like how Pedulla has taken the same shape but made it a bit more modern and sleek with their Rapture bass.

And John, forget posting photos of your basses... where's the photo of your girl!

Of the classics I like the Jazz bass shape. A variation of that is Yamaha TRB, but not the new models, the old, which had "slap scoops".

Of the modern I like the Ibanez Ergodyne 700, the curvy lookin'.

I also like "beatle" basses, arch-tops and acoustic jumbos.
