Favorite Cheap Bass

Peavey Milestone II

Cons: stock pickups were quiet and had weak tone. I replaced them with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders.

Pros: with flatwounds and the 1/4 Pounders, it has a very nice warm "traditional" tone.

It's not too heavy and it sounds like a Precision.

Yamaha RBX 765a (my first bass) for about $450 (if I remember right) in the spring of my sophomore year of high school (2002). Nothing has been more dependable or fit my hands better. I have played hundreds of gigs with it and I still use it a lot. In my lifetime I will spend whatever it takes to keep it playing; it has been that good to me. :)

You pretty much only paid for the parts and got the workmanship for free. Score!

My all time favorite would be my first, the Rickenbacker 3000 in my signature, purchased from Guitar Center for $110 with a case in '88. Served me well.

Otherwise I found this one below on CL with a 12" SWR Workingman's combo for $300, I am selling the combo for $250 so that leaves me this MiM 2000 Jazz that has been almost unplayed and is flawless for $50. That qualifies as cheap.

my favorite was a 98 mia jazz i bought for $520, but i had to sell it because it was too heavy for my bad shoulder. currently my favorites are a 2010 danelectro longhorn i bought for $200 and a 95 p lyte i gutted and put new pickups in at a total cost of about $450.
