    'Tis the season, etc...

OK, I'll start. The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping," without a doubt!

    Great lyrics, even better bassline!

My gypsy jazz band did a swinging version of What Child Is This? at our gig Sunday.

It might be this new one, by one of my all time favorite bands:

Little Drummer Boy! I heard it a week ago on the radio and, without warning, a watery salty substance began running down my cheeks... "What is happening to me???" seriously! So, I had to do my own version of it...

I always liked the Bing Crosby/David Bowie Drummer Boy.

I saw it when it aired for the very first time and was blown away. That feeling kinda stuck with me.

This time of year, I turn into a freakin' weirdo. I dig Kelly Clarkson's Wrapped in Red record in its entirety. I even dig Michael Buble's Christmas album. In. Its. Entirety.

I am a huge STP fan, but Scott Weiland's Christmas album does absolutely nothing for me. I draw the line here. Celine Dion is also a great big no. That said, I still dig the staples: Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Etta James, Sinatra, etc.

My favorite Christmas song, however, is still F*** Christmas by Fear. It reminds me of who I used to be and that's what I spend most of the holidays doing: reflecting. I get a few weeks off this time of year, so I have lots of time to do just that.

Edited to add: She and Him's Christmas record(s)
    Because, well:

  9. So many. Love the changes in the Christmas Song, and White Christmas. Love the unexpected changes in Sleigh Ride and It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Vocally, I like to hear O Holy Night, and Ave Maria--even a little Do You Hear What I Hear.

This is probably a little bit of a tangent but it's a beautiful piece. We do a "masterworks" Christmas concert with the choir and orchestra every year at the high school where I teach. Over the last 27 years I've done my share of Christmas music. This is something new we did this year and it is my new favorite.

But especially these. It's not Christmas without Glam.

And then there's more traditional stuff like I saw Three Ships, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

This. Really anything from this whole soundtrack, but this is the standout for me.

  17. My favorite is Paul Kelly's "How to Make Gravy". A very Australian, and very different, Christmas song with the main protagonist being in jail.

But Old 97's "Here it is Christmas" is one I only discovered this year and I really enjoy playing it with my girls.

Cheesy and cliche, but I like Baby It's Cold Outside.

  19. This probably is a testament to how much time I spend with my 3 1/2 year old daughter...but I gotta go "Hippopotamus for Christmas". It's annoyingly cute and reminds me of her I guess.
