Favorite Country bass lines?

Check out the bassline on the old classic Working Man Blues (Haggard, I believe). Its really over the top for Nashville. Country isnt all root-5, Montgomery Gentry rip off ACDC's Back in Black on Hell Yeah.

Some of the most tasteful bass work that I've ever heard is off of this Glenn Campbell CD that he did in Branson. I can't think of the name of it. The bass player is incredibly talented though, a very clean player and has a really pianoesque tone.

So do we. It's fun. I do a little octave riff/hammer-on sometimes when I walk down from the A to the E after the F#.

It's fun pop music, which opens doors for the bassist!! (In otherwords, compared to certain rock/genres when all you're doin usually is following the guitard player line's).

Remember Leland Sklar, who played for Jackson Browne during that guy's most creative period? He's in Nashville. Don't believe that all the good players are in LA.

+1 for Mr. Sklar. I love his work on Patty Loveless' Honky Tonk Angel album.

Just about everything by Merle Haggard is fun to play. I really have fun on "Mama Tried".

Also like "Swingin' Doors" and "Keys In The Mailbox". I play them Texas-style, with the fun walkups and whatnot.

LOL! Well, put on a dirty ol' John Deere cap, and you'll fit the song real fine.

Had to add, 'cause I nearly forgot..."Dallas On A DC-9", Joe Ely. Man, that song's awesome! Sometimes get to play it at jam. My band hates country...they miss out, don't they?

And then there's Ray Wylie Hubbard. "Coolern' He11" and "Screw You, We're From Texas" are great songs, plenty fun. And what about Robert Earl Keene? He's written just tons and loads of great songs that are fun to play.

In a blues band, we cover the Rolling Stones "Dead Flowers". I play a heavy country root/fifth pattern. The lead guitar solo is very country to. Makes it a country song.

Yeah, Dead Flowers has always felt real country to me. You can 2-step to it, if the bass line's played just right. LOL!

Anything by Kenny Chesney - Larry Paxton lays down some very cool bass lines on Kenny's CD's

Alot of people joke about country music bass lines, but these Studio musicians in Nashville laying down these bass lines are some serious musicians, better than 95% of people here making fun of them.

Agreed, KC and Dierks Bentley both have good bass lines in most of their songs.
