I have my own soft serve ice cream machine. It works well and makes great soft serve, it's just a pain to clean up.
Hard.
I go so far as to put the bowl I am going to use in the freezer before I put ice cream in it. I then add the ice cream and place the bowl back in the freezer with a spoon. Five minutes later, it is good-to-go.

I can't answer that question. I'm still in a trance from all the Dublin Mudslide (Ben & Jerry's) I had last night.

There are a lot of weird people out there that like making their own ice cream as a hobby. My mom used to do that.
I might like soft serve better but there aren't enough flavours.

- Full disclosure, I'm a certified Fender technician working in a music store that carries Fender, Yamaha, and Ibanez products among others.
What does Cold Stone Creamery count as? 'Cause it starts out hard, but after they mix in all the goodies, it's soft, and in a chocolate-coated waffle. That's what I like. So, hard mixed into soft, I guess.

gelato is really good.
man, during spring break, i went to boston. in the dining hall in one of the buildings in BU (forget which one), i had lots of burritos and ice cream cones for my various meals.
and while touring boston, a friend and i came across a store that sold gelato, and that was real good. it was like ice cream made out of silk!

Ice Cream is great, but it never lasts. If I buy a pint of Ben & Jerry's, it's gone in one sitting. It's one serving in my eyes. *lol*

I would say soft-serve...but by a narrow margin. It really depends on my mood, although I would say that soft-serve tends to be better for putting on your own toppings.

I was so happy when I was in Las Vegas in june and found out that my hotel (The Flamingo) was selling soft serve ice cream.
