While I love the sound of the Barts solo'd, I find they just-for me anyway-lack grunt and punch in a live mix. I think my next "gear whore moeny" will be spent on the new Lakkie pups and pre. From what I hear, these have much more "push."

I've spent some time with the new Lakland pre. Actually, I find the new pre to have less 'grunt and punch' than the older Bart... more wide... much deeper low end (must either be a lower shelving point than the Bart, or some sort of very wide Q), and the treble is much more airy and sweeter... closer to the AG OB-2 treble tone than the somewhat clacky Bart. The mid control sounds about the same, but has more center point options. I like the new one MUCH better than the Bart, but I think it will move the tone in the opposite direction versus what you are describing.

I've heard the new pickups described the same way (but have not heard them)... with the tone profile moving a little more toward the 'crisp, clean, hi fi' tone of the EMG's versus the very mid growly Barts.

IMO and IME.

Man, that's so wierd because I described my feelings and what I was looking for to Jauqo, and he seemed to indicate that he felt the same way about the old stuff, and that the new stuff had much more punch and mid grind...
Of course, I've not saved any of that communication, but maybe he'll chime in here...

Man, the new pre is as clean, open and clear as anything I've ever heard, versus the somewhat congested and mid aggressive tone of the original circuit, expecially with the Barts. Not quite sure what he would have been hearing?

I was listening to the Bart's system(pre included) in comparison to the Lakland system(pre included) and the lakland system is much clearer and the mids are strong and this is from not one,two or even three Laklands but a nice amount of Basses to do the type of comparison that would leave me knowing for a fact that the systems are different,The Lakland system can nail the Bart system but not the other way around.

and the Lakland system is far more more versatile than the Bart's system 10 times over.

that is one of the reasons I got three laklands with the Lakland system in them instead of the Bart's system and believe me I have been around Lakland since day one and the reason I wasn't playing laklands then was because the Bart's system in the Lakland 4-94 and 55-94 are not for me.

I have just ordered my LH-3 upgrade. I'm kind of nervous because I'm going in blind but if it's what Dan Lakin intends then it's good enough for me to give it a go.
I always felt my 55-94 lacked something- we'll see how it pans out with the new guts.

My general setting is all p'ups up, coil tap centered, mids @ 500hz, Bass and mid boosted by about 50% and treble dependant on age of string!
I find that the minute I back the j p'up off I start to lose the fullness that drives the band. Lovely when soloed but not in a full-on band context unless I want a barky sound.
I've turned into a stage shaker in my middle age!

Was messing round late last night on my 55-02 (deluxe Nat w Rosewood board, Bart pickups and pre) and for the first time I started really messing with the controls and listening to my tone.

Up to now, I have been pretty much up exclusively a fingerfunk player, and so I run the Lakland flat (all EQ at 12 o'clock), both pickups even or a touch towards the bridge and the MM on the bridge coil only - very much a standard Jazz configuration.

However I am just starting to learn to slap at the moment, and last night I spent ages just working on getting notes even across the board and a nice fat, ringing slap tone out of my thumb on all the strings. Then I started to mess round a bit with the EQ and I think I found my slap sound last night. It's probably still too early to claim it as *my* slap tone, but I ended up with the same pickup configuration, bass at 2 o'clock, mids at 11 and treble at 3 or 4ish (my strings are getting a little old so I think it would be more like 3 with newer strings)

I think this is a pretty standard configuration but I thought I would share - it was good enough for me to end up getting so into it that 2am came and went, and the wife was standing there bleary eyed with the rolling pin, suggesting I might be feeling sleepy :D

Here's a 'duh' moment for you. I messed with the dip switches and decided that the factory setting of 500Hz is WAY better than the 850 mine was set at. The 500 really seems to fill in that something that was missing to my ears. Of course I plugged it into a WalkAbout head > Wizzy cab instead of the usual WT800B > Epi 410UL..............duh.

I've been using the new Lakland system since August and I have posted my thoughts on it several times here at TB as well as other TB members who have spent some time with the new system.With all due respect if you haven't already do a search.

My favourite seetings are
Bass: 2 o clock
Mids:12 o clock (flat
Treble: 3 o clock
Mid freq selector: factory
Pup blend: 10 o clock
Tap: centre
May i add that Lakland pickups are amazing, such brute agression.

Yeah, I know where you stand. I wanted to know if 'chardbass' had anything to say, as well as anyone else with new input.
