I know this has been done before, but I wanna do it again and want to ask in the first post if anyone has seen the Netflix movie, Creep?

I caught it about a year ago and thought it was pretty good (and twisted), and then I noticed today there was a Creep 2.

I'm not big on sequels, so I was considering passing - but this was one of the few movies I've seen where the 2nd one outdid the first.

I don't really like slasher or horror films cuz they seem too cartoonish to me. Not sure if this falls into either of those categories... might be more of a psychological thriller, but yeah.... I think it's definitely worth the watch. I'd watch the first one, first.

Wouldn't say this was my favorite, but it's definitely one of them. Will post more down the line.

What are your favs?

Not too sure how the 2nd would stand on it's own. Knowing the main character from the first kinda made it shine for me.

the "other" Vietnam war film, "Heaven & Earth", my fave of the trilogy from Oliver Stone

"Casualties of War" with Sean Penn & Michael J. Fox

"The Killing Fields" about the Cambodian genocide

"Men of War" with Catherine Bell & Dolph Lundgren (my friend was the military consultant)

"Elephant White" with Kevin Bacon

All those were filmed in Thailand.


"Shutter" (English version of a Japanese horror film)
filmed in Japan (starring Joshua Jackson)

"The Skulls" about a secret society, also starring Joshua Jackson

Going Beserk was a good one, is that the one where Eugene Levy's secretary could never pronounce his name right ? Mr. Des pas kes , drove him nuts.

"Get Crazy" is a spoof on the Fillmore theater days , was never released on DVD but I managed to get a decent bootleg. You can watch it on You Tube.

"Saving Grace" the 420 crowd would get a kick out of this one, co starring Craig Fergusen in one of his rare big screen appearances.

I'd also like to know what "obscure" is supposed to mean in this context. Is Re-Animator already obscure, or Street Trash? Or do we have to go the extra mile and say Killer Barbys, Attack of the Mushroom People or Burning Moon?

One I'd like to point out that is most definitely obscure is Adam Chaplin, an Italian splatter movie that celebrates all kinds of distasteful excess, taking inspiration from Fist of the North Star, Violence Jack, and stands firmly in the tradition of late 80s/ early 90s Euro-Horror like Ittenbach, Schnaas, etc.

Speaking of Canadian movies, check out Turbo Kid... It's Mad Max on bicycles.

I really enjoyed Creep. It was interesting to imagine myself in the position of the videographer - would I have reacted the same way? It's easy to say I would have bailed out of there ASAP, but is that really true? We all are somewhat afraid of offending people, even if they're strangers.

I haven't seen Creep 2, but plan to this week.

My favorite movie is one that qualifies as obscure. Its called Grand Canyon. Its from 1991, and has Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, Steve Martin etc...The greatness of the film isn't about the cast, its the way these random, seemingly unrelated events take place in the characters lives who vary greatly by wealth, class, race...

It is so well written in the way it weaves the characters lives together through events that seem in no way connected. It is also well acted by the cast, with many of the actors playing rolls that seem outside of their wheelhouse. Very well done, I highly recommend it!

Ironically, now that Joe has announced this to his huge fan base, it is no longer obscure.

The Sheltering Sky.

1990.

Director, Bernardo Bertolucci

It's about a semi-wealthy couple, John Malkovich and Deborah Winger, who take a holiday in north Africa, right after world war 2.

It covers marital boredom, infidelity, and sudden death.

As with many Bertolucci movies, it's long, slow to develop, but very well done.

The movie makes you see how ordinary, unappreciated, yet precious life is, and how fleeting it can be.

Watch it if you get a chance.
