Educate me, anyone:

I've seen much praise heaped upon the Pino here at TB. I think it's a handsome bass; what do players like/love about it?

(Not looking to buy -- I'm well stocked with a 77/78 P and 05 Bongo. Just seeking enlightenment!)

The pickup. It gives this nice, vintage, woody tone that you can't get out of a regular P-bass. Whether that's worth the $4000 is up to you.

I don't usually do signature models either, but the Matthew Garrison Fodera was amazing, and so was the Marcus Miller Jazz. I don't know anything about Fender really, but I believe the specific one I played was American.

Stickk, you could easily put a P pickup in your Telejazz.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
I loved that build thread. It would be sick if you put in a P pickup, like where it is on the Mark Hoppus model.

Personally, I am totally GASing for a Marcus Miller Jazz, and I like the Geddy's I've played too. I've got no problem with them.

I'm excited because I have what is probably an uncommon answer to this one.

I'm not usually a fan of singlecut basses, but I do like the Fodera Tom Kennedy:

...because the electronics and pickup spacing really seem to work for his tone. I also like the Ibanez Gary Willis:

...for many of the same reasons. However, last year Ibanez moved the production and setup of those basses to a small luthier group in Japan. Quality probably improved (it wasn't bad before, at all), but they want $3000 for one of them now. I bet they have sold about ten since making that move.

While I agree with those of you who dont buy into signature models, mostly because of my near-poverty tax bracket, I would have to go with the Marcus Miller 4. Im biased. I did own a Carvin Bunny Brunel 6 string for a brief time years ago. It was nice but a bit too fancy. Not for me. Played a Geddy in a GC once. Pretty sweet.
