The bass of the week club. Talkbass sends me a new bass each week! It's awesome.

Almost as awesome as all of the the thoughtful, knowledgeable, funny, and sometimes patient folks who make talkbass what it is.

I'll start with the Talk Bass hive mind. Having come up in the pre-internet era, when info was viral (and often wrong), it is awesome to have a source of info that converges on something approaching consensus.

I like the camaraderie!

My favorite thing about talkbass is learning that Moollon bases and Southampton 5th Gear pedals exist. That, along with the used items in the classified section, squashed my longing for a pre-CBS P-bass and a big ole classic tube amp. My bank account (and wife) thank you, talkbass.

I often wonder if I should just stop GASing, buy a Moollon and be done with it.

Wife: Why do you spend so much time on talkbass?

Me: ...I prefer the string spacing on the Jazz bass, but the midrange punch on the P bass is a factor too. Plus you have to factor in the gauge and tension of the low E string...

Wife: ... just go back on talkbass

First to me is that the majority of the people here are very helpful. Second is its role as a resource. The reason I put these in the priority I do is because if the people here were not helpful, it would just be a troll-a-thon like many other sites, and not the vast knowledge base that it is.
Third is that it is well-moderated and a generally clean place. I'm not trying to suck up here, that is something that I find important, and I believe those things contribute to its success as a site, which in turn support TB as a knowledge base for a topic/profession/hobby which generally brings people together.

Playing bass for the past 3.5 years has been the most effective therapy I’ve encountered in my life. The TalkBass community is like my group session, and I thank all of you for indulging my string swapping, classified flip-flopping, noob-questioning quest.

I started off with an interest in doom metal, and now I’m into Paul Jackson and Jerry Jemmott. I consider this progress.
