I agree with this 100%. You can't go anywhere these days without conversations derailing into a political hate-fest. It's really sad. Outside of unplugging from the internet, TB is one of the few sites I can go to and converse with people from all lifestyles that share a similar interest.
Additionally I've discovered new artists, had tech questions answered, and even had the opportunity to chat with some of my bass hereos... Lee Sklar, Jeff Berlin (dating myself on TB), JMJ, Mike Watt, and others... yes, this is a horribly GAS inducing site, but it's filled with great people... My .02

I was reluctant to join earlier this year but there’s too much great info in this site to just lurk as a guest. Id rather lurk with a profile of my own and post occasionally.

Me: ...I prefer the string spacing on the Jazz bass, but the midrange punch on the P bass is a factor too. Plus you have to factor in the gauge and tension of the low E string...

I particularly love the ability to buy and sell bass gear with fellow bass brothers and sisters with almost no thought that something will go wrong.
i like: different points-of-view, different experiences, different choices to execute the same thing/music/situation.
so, i voted "the differences."
OTOH: it's pretty cool that we all agree that pedals are for losers, 5-strings are a waste, P-basses have significant limitations, unlined is the bomb......!

Nobody's cliquey here!! Was on an electronic music site full of nerds that enjoyed a pecking order. You had to work your way up the ladder of insecurity. Cynics were cool. From what I could tell, none of them were making much money through music but boy were they grand.
Besides what I mentioned here about that greater sense of community: Least Favorite thing about Talkbass?
What I like is that I've become so much more aware of independent luthiers and craftspeople creating fantastic instruments, amplifiers, cabinets, etc. There is so much cool stuff out there that TalkBass made me aware of that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.
Plus, if I was curious about some obscure piece of gear or bass lore, someone here would know about it.
I've also had better experiences buying and selling via the TalkBass classifieds than in many other places.

My favorite thing about Talkbass? There are a lot of genuinely nice, knowledgeable and helpful people here who love bass, love music and demonstrate good character via their participation in the forum.
This was the only forum I participated in for many years and it wasn’t until I started branching out that I realized how great it is here.

The people who share their knowledge/opinions. I love that no matter what bass question I have (e.g. what is this bass? who played bass on ...? how does Nashville system work again? etc....) someone - or lots of someones - here will have an answer. I'm getting educated, and often with humour. Thanks TalkBass community!
Different things I like about this forum, but perhaps my favourite is that it's a place to talk about gear & bass playing etc.
So many people I know--including some other musicians, don't like that--here there are a lot of us.
(back when I went to concerts more often a friend & I would talk about the basses & guitars the band was using. but our friends didn't care & wanted us to stop that)

The amazing skills on display n the Luthiers’ Corner. Having a more reliable and trustworthy community to buy/sell/trade gear. Never would have tried flats... list goes on and on

There is a Bass Playing Bear, Lobster, Dog with a pot on his head (how it has not fallen off by now is beyond me), A dude that can not park straight because he lives life like a fretless player.
We have a bunch of cats here, even get to talk to Fido,
That is Fat Freddy's Cat. 
Can not forget all the Basses That Talk around this place.
I was not aware of how many non humans there are on the internet.

The three main things I like about this forum are:
1) The members are pretty down-to-earth. Posters run the gamut from bedroom hobbyists to professional touring musicians but everyone manages to be respectful and supportive of each other. I don't see the condescension and snarkiness that I see on some other music forums.
2) The knowledge base. I have learned a lot about music theory, acoustics, electronics, and bass repair from the members of the forum. Some of you guys are actual card-carrying geniuses.
3) The diverse musical interests. Admittedly, my musical tastes are somewhat limited. I like what I like, and like liking what I like. But when someone shares a video of their band or links to a song, I get exposed to new music that I otherwise would not have known about.
