After being out of the loop for like, 15 years, this forum has gotten me "back in the loop" (and then some) and increased my knowledge. TB has also inspired me to look for ways to improve my technique and tone. I never would have found the tone I was looking for if I had not read all the available reviews/critiques that I have. If this place was around when I was 18 it would have been a huge benefit for me, because I certainly better at bass playing now.

As one of those guys that began trying to teach himself bass (and guitar) during the pandemic, this forum has been very very helpful. If I can't find the information I need in an existing thread, I can start a new thread and quickly get some very knowledgeable and patient answers. Sometimes the answers are not what you want to hear, like, "you should get a setup done" or "you should get an instructor." But they are always valuable.

If I had a resource like this a million years ago when I tried and failed to learn several instruments, things would have turned out differently.

This is also just a NICE place... it's a very good crowd here. I have some other hobby forums which I dread using even though the information is good.

I'll start with the Talk Bass hive mind. Having come up in the pre-internet era, when info was viral (and often wrong), it is awesome to have a source of info that converges on something approaching consensus.

There’s always something to learn—about people, players, and equipment—both positive and negative. But overall, I appreciate so many people engaging in largely civil discourse on a subject of common interest. This has been a go-to place for me for many years.

Overall, I think bassists are more supportive of each other than some other instrument players. That's what I like about TB, the sharing. Many of the contributors really try to help.

Lots of guitar forums consist of folks demoing tones or techniques while not willing to share the HOW or WHY. More brag, more jealousy, less education than TB.

The fact that if I click on FORUMS at the top of the page I can select the category to read, like Amps and Cabs or Accessories and never see what I do not care about like Effects, Recording or For Sale posts.

I’ve been a supporting member for 14 years and Talkbass has been a part of my daily life the whole time. Over the years, I have to say that my favorite thing about TB has been the overall community. I absolutely love the idea that I can log into TB and constantly find examples of forum members helping each other out with information, buying/selling/trading with one another, and even plan in-person gatherings. There have even been occasions when I’ve witnessed certain members offer up free gear in the name of charity and good will. If you ask me, we have one of the strongest, most good-intentioned communities on the web. I’m proud to be a member of TB.
