I mentioned him before but steve swallows tone on the album " that early september" with Akira Ishii, is excellent.
Very woody but well not at all muddy.
The playing of both is real nice too. Simple, to the point.

I also like what I hear coming out Ryan Stasik from Umphrey's McGee. Especially Safety in Numbers and The Bottom half. Kind of a mix between old and new school tones. He is a Lakland guy, but I think he used old Ricks on those albums. He has a great live tone as well. If you get the chance and they are in the area you should check them out (warning, Jamband).

Also I really really love the tone that Stefan Lessard(sp?) gets on Don't Drink the Water...really burpy midrange. That is a tone I've been chasing for years.
