I'm back to using the Photon as a preamp - I lasted, what, one gig without? My settings are very similar to this. But one very interesting thing I have found: as you roll up the Bite control, it warms up the signal, makes it more vintage sounding, the breakup gets smoother/softer/woolier - very cool! For my uses, I'd never have it past about 10 oclock, as it breaks up a lot more quickly as you turn Bite up. You'd either need to feed it a lower signal or run it dirtier, but still cool for a more vintage vibe. The difference is subtle, but noticeable.

I'm also super, super happy to have a mid control on mine

Welcome to Scotland! Loving it so far! I intend to keep it on a nano with a 5th Gear and hopefully a Studio One while the band try and record all our stuff (which is proving to be tricky, the keyboard player and guitar player have been breeding - not with each other I should add - which means they're not allowed out to play as much...). The Cali76 will stay on the big board but I look forward to a few hours comparing them.

Oh, there's no trouble. Just operator error in that I haven't quite got my head around on how to use this particular feature. I did try to run a mic from a bass drum via an XLR to 1/4" cable but I lost my nerve because I felt like I needed some sort of volume control or preamp (that I didn't have at the time) before running a signal into my favorite pedal.

No big deal. I think I just need to find a YouTube demo of how to use the side chain.

Aha. I haven't gotten that advanced with mine yet, though it would be very interesting learning to using it in that way. So far I'm just backing off the lows and highs a bit but I love the effect that has on the comp. I would think if you could send the kick signal out of a mixer (even a mini one) that would be the ticket.

My sugestion is, if you haven't tried it already, use the dip switches inside and cut the octave so that is not so "bright". Once you do that the octave becomes a beef up low end boost, use it when you really want to go balls to the wall.

Don't over do the octave, at least To my taste a little goes a long way...

The switches are the secret to achieving my "signature" photon fuzz sound, without them I would have some issues with the brightness and how the dry signal mixes with the wet.

I'd like to say thanks to Frank, Glen, and anyone else at FEA, a while back I put put myself on the wait list for the DE-CL and forgot about it, back in May 2016 got the email that it was ready, I and received shortly after and it is nothing short of fantastic. I didn't know this thread existed else I'd of commented sooner.

Congrats on the DB-CL score!:thumbsup:

The mixer is still on the list, but its concept has been changed to more of a loop pedal that can also be used as a mixer. I have worked on some of the circuit features that other loop pedals don't currently have, so it is a bit more than just a concept.;)

Since the end of 2015 I have been working on converting our designs to 80-90% surface mount technology to shorten build cycle times. The goals are to try to improve on the circuit performance while minimizing the waiting lists and to possibly keep stock on the website. So everything else has taken a back seat until I have that work complete. Then after that work is complete, we will have to sort out which of the new products will be first.
