My 12/6 is hugger orange in a muscle car tribute kind of way. My basses are red and sunburst. I'll never be a rock star and don't play out that much. But I like to have fun with my gear and my music. Soooo, I guess that makes me an over the hill amateur rock star wannabe. So be it. Maybe if I were a pro subbing a lot it would be different and I can understand that point of veiw. But if my gear stands out maybe my playing skill (or lack there of) will be less noticed. Since I'm not making a lot of money I might as well have some fun with it.

The comical thing is, I built up that prejudice in my 20's and early 30's, when I was on the gigging circuit.

Those days are long gone. I'm now in my late 50's and only play for charitable causes, so these days I could probably show up with my cabinets plastered with old movie posters if I wanted...

If you're subbing, it would seem like your job is to blend in, not stand out. The ACT is not yours, it belongs to the people who hire you. Props, costumes, etc. are their call.

I used my BX1500 last night at my gig with my LDS 15/6 and it was fantastic. Looking forward to getting the true spec Fearful 15/6 as it will likely not be any worse but better. Then I *really* hope I am done with the gear hunt. Its been a long time coming!

I've got a Kreg pocket screw jig and I've used it for a few things. I'm still more dialed to biscuits and glue. That said, the Kreg does work well for quickly assembling boxes without clamps. AND I've got dozens of clamps. Be generous with the screws, and make sure the screw length and jig are dialed in. The pocket screws and quick clamps will make it pretty easy to assemble the box. You'll get better with practice. It's a pretty cool tool set up.

I used mine for hardwood cabinet door frames and some plywood carcasses. It worked fine.

On the crossover problem, I have no faith in my soldering skills, so I augment with crimp sleeves, wire nuts, heat shrink and tape. Everything gets strapped down. It's not pretty, but so far, never a loose wire.

Next cab finish trend prediction: SEC themes! I could probably score points with the wife if I painted my next 12/6 orange like cableguy's, but instead of the BOSS stripe, a blue AU on the side. I would consider doing it if it meant I could get more projects past the planning committee, but it might limit my gigging opportunities.
Seriously though, I like the baffle contrast ideas. I'm thinking something along the lines of a cheesy 70's velvet black light poster would be fully awesome.

Actually, the 15/6 I am about to build is going to be Tennessee orange with a white baffle and grill. Go Vols! :cool:

I just have to get the rest of the cash together.

I'll second that nice rack sentiment! The Alembic F2-B is one nice preamp.

Here's the latest: 12/6 cube wired and ready to test.

I'm brain farting on the +/- thing with the 3012LF, and I came down to look up the answer, but I got distracted by the camera.

I bought the festive assortment package of wire ties and color coded the high and low pass parts, black and white 14 wire stripped out of romex scraps.

This thing should be making some noise in the next hour!:hyper:

I'll test it alone and with the mutant 1-15" sub. A TL-606 cab with the 3015LF and CBG low pass. We'll just see how much the Alpha 6A can put out.

The fEarful spec sub cab is laid out for cutting, but it's getting to be another busy week.
