fEARful cabs....whats the deal???

Yeah i am now really digging the fearless 215! perfect size and I bet would sound killer with my Mesa
Yeah - you'll love a dual woof GB cab and a tube Mesa bass amp* but you are leaving a lot of cab on the table with only 200 watts - such a cab is excursion limited to something north of 1,500 watts - so do yourself a favor and at some point slap a bridged boat anchor PA amp on top to sample everything the cab can do.
*I have a 400+ I run through a 66 on occasion and it has a very nice tone - but my default rig is a JGR 6SL7 pre into a Crown iTech 6000 and that's a whole 'nother thing altogether - YMMV

Fearless 215 must have a lot lower power limit than fearful 1516/66. A better match for the 400+ though.
The difference is the fEARless doesnt have the same extended range as the fEARful. It will still handle a 5 string in low A no problem. As far as cabinet size and porting go, the fEARless are not hugely smaller than the fEARful cabs. There IS a lot of form factor change which improves the weight a tad. As far as a lot less power handling? Dont know. I have spent a bit of time with the F112 and own a 12/6. I hit both pretty hard when I had them both, but was never in a location to find their limits. They are *both* very loud.
I doubt the excursion limit is much reduced in the f215... the bite of the 66's dual mids and their loose reined xover versus the more polite single 6 mid section of the f215 are reported to be the most notable difference.
If i can find a 1515/66/1 for $700 used, i would be all over it. Unfortunately dreaming doesnt get u far!!!

...but, I think you'd have trouble finding a 15/6 for that price.
yeah that's part of it - but don't forget the xover point twixt woofs and mid are also different
Another option to get the most out of a 4 ohm load is to consider a dual 12/6 stack or 12/6 + 12sub.
However, the 15/6 definitely gives you the biggest bang for the least $.
As Foz mentioned if you get yourself a power amp and bridge around 1000w into 8 ohms you will be smiling. You dont really need a 1000w but its nice to have, especially if you are playing with a loud band.

You keep saying that, but has anyone ever compared them directly??? On what are you basing it???
A Mesa PH610 was my main cab for a few years, and although I will admit that I haven't yet played thru a 15/6, I truly have my doubts about the above claim...

I did a direct compare to an Ampeg 610. 15/6/1 is not quite as loud. Close though.
Also, im getting ready to put my 15/6/1 up in the classifieds. PM if interested.
FWIW I don't own a fEarful, but I have a similar LDS 15/6 and it seems about as loud as my Epi 410 and is also clearer down low. I don't know if it could match a 610 and I certainly haven't done any tests with a dB meter, but my guess is it would be louder than the 410 if pushed to its' limit (which I have not ever reached).
That statement is based on greenboy and Alex's (Barefaced Bass) statements. I trust their volume rating. As far as it going lower. I did used to own a 15/6 and own three other fEARful cabs now, they feel deeper than any 610 I have played.
