fEARful cabs....whats the deal???

FWIW I don't own a fEarful, but I have a similar LDS 15/6 and it seems about as loud as my Epi 410 and is also clearer down low. I don't know if it could match a 610 and I certainly haven't done any tests with a dB meter, but my guess is it would be louder than the 410 if pushed to its' limit (which I have not ever reached).
+1

I have a/bd my 15/6 with a yorkville 410 and my 15/6 was definitely louder. However, I also tried it against an 810 and in that situation the 810 was louder.

That statement is based on greenboy and Alex's (Barefaced Bass) statements. I trust their volume rating. As far as it going lower. I did used to own a 15/6 and own three other fEARful cabs now, they feel deeper than any 610 I have played.

You sure about that??? - because I don't recall either making the claim that you keep repeating... Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying anything negative about the 15/6, but just don't want someone to be mislead by incorrect statements...

I would put a 15/6 somewhere louder than a 4x10 and somewhere quieter than an 8x10. I haven't compared directly. I have offered to meet up with George so he could try them out in comparison, but the timing hasn't ever really worked out for us.

Hey 'Skies!
Didnt even see you had stopped in till just now!

Hey fellas-

One thing to weigh in on that I'm sure you Fearful users will agree with - it's not just a simple VOLUME comparison (15/6 vs. a 6x10 or 8x10) but rather, a volume AND clarity comparison.

I've played many dates with a provided SVT/810 fridge rig backline and not felt a single note played below an open E. No matter how "loud" the cabinet was. Couldn't believe how lost things got down low. I'll take a slightly "quieter" 15/6 any day of the week.

Hi! :) I'm trying to ease back into things. ;)

I can agree with that. I did a couple theater gigs not to long ago and the stage rig is some kind of ampeg 810, and I've done others with them too...and I always think "I should have brought my rig".

when comparing a 15/6 to other cabs i would say it beats a 4x10 no problem at all, anything bigger than a 4x10 is what i consider to be very big and awkward cab (and very heavy) so when comparing big cabs (larger than 4x10) to fearfuls you should scale the fearful up also to the dual woofer options,
a 15/6 + a 15 sub or 1515/66 would be louder and clearer throughout the frequency range than the mentioned 6x10 IMO

also, you wont break your back carrying it!

15/6 volume comparison to a 4x10 = hands down 15/6 win and is a useful anecdotal rule of thumb IMO .

Past that - you start talking 6x10 & and 8x10 comparisons the answer depends on how loud you want the low end. If you are looking for significant output below 100 Hz the 15/6 has advantages that will beat many 6 to 8x10 designs - but others not so much. IOW it gets more subjective - for low low lovers the fEARful has a good chance of being the most satisfactory [see BS' post above] but for a low-mid forward guy mebbee not so much.

Not to say that the fEARful can't bring the low-mids. With EQ, the cabs can give pretty much what you want. But a lot of bass players want that particular flavor baked in, and more power to 'em.

Yup, it really needs to be underscored that one of the great things about these cabs is that they are ***relatively*** neutral so that one can change the tone of the cab to suit their personal preference.

Vintage, doom, hi fi, low-mid or hi-mid cut... its all there abundantly with a little eq.

As long as one is willing to take the time to listen, learn and adjust. These aren't really 'set em and forget em' cabs. But once you get over certain learning curves, they really are that good.

That being said, I've had the best success with parametric eq with my rig.

I play in a metal band with a Mesa tube amp. Does anyone think that the15/6/1 would work as good as lets say a 610? My amp is about 200watts tube with 6550s. Only reason is that this is the only option at a used price that i could swing. I wish i could afford the 1515/6
