fEARful part 13: the bad luck's done, son

Just saying that sound waves radiate from the cone, and that some of those waves sound different depending on where you stand, including how close.

Just started wondering if a Mesa Scout cab with the downward facing passive radiator provides a noticeable difference for players needing to stand on top of their rig. Someone mentioned standing close to their cab to feel the air movement against their pant legs. Perhaps someone with experience can comment on that experience.

Perhaps placing a cab at the front of the stage and facing it back, like a monitor would also help with the issue of being too loud in the crowd, but too quiet on stage.

Sorry, for the fearful topic derail. Just trying to brain up a solution to the quagmire presented.

In my (albeit limited) experience with a 1212/6/1, I walked the ivenue with a wireless during a sound check and found it to be extremely even, and very close to what I was hearing right in front of it as well. Everyone in the band noticed that it sounded better defined where they were as well.

Finally got to play the fEARful in a live situation last night! Had another bass player tell me it was the most insane cab he's ever heard... he was in the audience during our set, so it must've sounded good out there! [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is a video clip someone took with their cell phone, I believe... yep, you can hear the bass pretty well! I ran both bass and synth through it with great results. Here's to many many more shows with this awesome cabinet!

One of the pleasures of owning a fEARful is being able to share it on gigs. Then you can hear in the room from every location, in a bunch of different band, amp and player settings. The other big pleasure is that I almost never have a worry that whoever is playing the cab(s) will damage them due to pushing them too hard.

Forgive my ignorance regarding the asking of this question, but has anyone ever looked into the presence of a fearful on a major label band release or tour? i know bands at that level often are sponsored, so they play what they get a check to play. however, many guys at that level are as GAS-y as the rest of us.

Most will take the money to endorse a brand that will pay.

Most of what you'd hear at those events is through FOH, not stage sound. (GreenBoy, get yer checkbook out!)

Assuming FOH is transparent, I would think the question becomes an issue of mic vs DI of the players rig, and then whatever the sound guy does from there. If it was a mic of a fEARful cab, then you would get a transparent reproduction of a transparent cab. That would be regarding the house and monitor sound. I'm assuming some players are concerned about their on-stage sound from an amp, which would not be an FOH issue.

My question is more about the player's choice and not what the audience hears. I'd assume that, sponsorship issues aside, that level of player has his/her pick of gear and I wonder if any have used fEARful on stage or in studio.

Sponsorship/endorsements come in a lot of different flavors. For all but the top name players, an endorsement is typically just a free rig, or a 'wholesale price' on a given piece of gear. I would say this represents 95%+ of all endorsements.

I am lucky enough to have two pretty good friends who have major endorsements (i.e., one is a top tier 'fusion artist', and the other is a longtime bassist for a stadium level pop/rock act). Neither are payed for endorsing a product, and one of the key decision criterion used by both of them is the ability for the gear to be available around the world in many different cities, etc., so that when they show up and play, for example, a side gig at a club in Detroit, the company can easily provide a backline for them, or if a piece of gear fails, they will be sure to have a new rig by the next day.

This is part of the reason why you see so few 'boutique' sort of rigs on stage with this level of player. Players of that level can work with many different amps/cabs to get their sound. It is mostly about the 'company service' and 'distribution network' that allows a company to easily provide backline across a wide geographic area.
