Regarding grills...

Any thoughts on using velcro? I had an idea to use 1/2 inch circular velcro bits and place about 8 of them around the grill's circumference.

I'd recommend 3m dual lock or Godlyke's pedal board stuff over any other kind of hook and loop.

Both will hold much better and won't weaken over time like regular Velcro does.

I started a 15/6 build a couple weeks ago and it's been going pretty good . I took a few pictures before I put the lid on today .

My parts from Leland at Speaker hardware come tomorrow and the grill is getting here later this week . When I get this one done I'm going to do a 15 sub . Our outdoor big gigs this summer should be fun .

Looks good to me. This, I think, is my next step. So is leaving the bracing uncovered ok? Also is the box for the mid supposed to be stuffed?

Yes , the braces should be covered too but it's not a big deal if they aren't . The mid chamber will be stuffed , I've got the material to do it . I put the lid on last night so now it's time to get it ready for Duratex .

OK. Stupid me. I've only seen pictures where the bracing wasn't covered. The dampening is one of my next steps.

Ha. That's the most annoying thing about how long I'm taking to build this thing. We have a gig this weekend at a pretty huge outside amphitheater (huge venue, probably not a lot of attendents) and I'm not even going to be close to finished with my builds.....I'm going to be hauling out my Eden 410. :(

...The downside to a fixed mid driver versus a variable tweeter is that you have to totally control your top end with EQ. That isn't bad in and of itself, but can take a bit more work if you aren't enamored with a lot of energy in that 1-3k 'gank' area (or if you have a particularly noisy amp up top).

Actually, there's one other way to control that region. This weekend, after some discussion with greenboy, I installed a new midrange crossover in my 1212/6/1 to lower the 18 Sound midrange driver output overall by about 3dB. I also modified the LeJeune tweeter crossover to lower the rolloff frequency (per greenboy's previous commentary on the subject).

These changes were exceedingly easy to do. And so far, I like this balance between woofers and midrange much better. I'll know more after my first gig.

One of the coolest things about the fEARful cabs is the ease with which adjustments like these can be made! There are lots of prebuilt "components" available to customize these cabs!

So is mine from Mike Arnopol. Here's to super light cabs from non-traditional materials and the guys who build them :bassist:

Dude you will be amazed at how light these cabs can be. If there is any cab that can produce as much sound per pound as a composite 15/6 I want to know about it. My cab weighs 38 pounds with heavey duty hardware. I bet that can be shaved down to 35 ish if wanted. Stack three of these up to equal the weight of a 610, but you only need one for the same SPL.
