I'm getting there.
Funny thing is, I'd never have called myself "handy"... This is the very first thing I've ever built. Ever. If you have the funds, just go for it. I had the panels cut at the lumberyard, and the crossovers prebuilt, but I did the rest, and it wasn't that hard with the help and advice of others on the fEARful forum, though it did take me close to a month due to my inexperience and hesitation at some points. Sure, I made a few mistakes, but that's how you learn, and now that it's done, I'm very happy with it.
As for handles, they kinda blend in, bit if you look again, I used strap handles on the sides. The cab weighs 54 lbs without grill, and those handles are plenty strong, I believe. Plus, using straps was just two less holes I had to cut and possibly mess up, so that's why I went with straps.
Haha. Thanks, man. And the trash bag.....we had a good bit of belt sanding to do. It's all good now....but I'm about to round out the edges.
So....applying duratex and hardware....what order does that go in? Do I screw in the jack plates and corners while the duratex is still wet?
The stuff in my cab I used for dampening material is poly batting (quilt material) I bought from Walmart. I got a large bag of it for around $12.Very informative pics, man. Thanks. And timely, for me. I was doing the dampening last night using the egg crate foam from speaker hardware but I ran out halfway through the second cab. I don't want to wait for a new order to get to me so I need to go do some searching on the forum and see what I can pick up locally.
Excellent tip.And one suggestion: when you are applying duratex to your cab, at the same time, also apply it to a piece of scrap wood. That way you can test dryness using the scrap, rather than potentially marring the finish on your cab if you find it isn't dry.
Excellent tip.I'll be duratexing in the next week or two and that is definitely helpful.
Does the duratex give off any odor as it dries? I live in a small condo and would prefer to keep it inside as it dries but if there is any offgassing I'll have to keep it on my balcony outside... which I'd rather not do.
