Fearful Part 14: one better than 13!

So I'm looking at building a pair of 15/6's and have a few questions. First of all, for someone with little electronics experience how does one go about constructing a crossover in the easiest way possible? Second, where is the cheapest price for the 3015lf drivers? Thanks!

Gary from EA was kind enough to send me an e-mail Sunday morning and he informed me that I could get it to him if need be. I always get raped in shipping so I just drove it to my local music chain today. Unfortunately, they are the only game in town, hence the backlog.

Hello,

If I was in your situation I would take Gary 1000x over the local guy, especially since it is such a unique amp (it was the first bass amp other than the Walter Woods with Class D technology. Gary knows better than any one in the world how to get this this working again - and get it working right. Shipping should not be more than 20 or 30 dollars - its a light amp.

My suggestion would be that you buy the boards prebuilt or find someone who really knows what he is doing. Poorly built xovers are one of the most common sources for "ghost" problems in the fEARful DIY world. Remember that these parts will be under extreme vibration and are expected to last a very long time. If you are going to solder, you need to make sure that you have a soldering iron that is hot enough, good quality solder, no cold solder joints, and hot glue the hell out of everything. Or just have speakerhardware do it and dont bother worrying.

+1

Add my vote to that. I actually lost my breath when I saw it. That could be the best looking rig I've ever seen.
Thank you. I'm glad people like it.

Seriously though, I just copied what I liked about other's projects. Look at the white 1212/6 at shobass.com. I saw some hadbuilt a matching boxes for their heads - I figured I was cutting anyway, may as well make mine match. And I never would have considered making custom grills if my buddy with the plasma cutter hadn't suggested it. The fans are blue only because that ultra-quiet model only came in blue. We needed a way to mount them and we were cutting grills anyway, so ... custom grills were cheaper than buying for me.

It all came out nice - but I had lots of help and inspiration from others' builds. These threads are awesome for stealing others good ideas, as I did liberally.

Good luck with it finding a job in this economy.

We may see it next in the drive-thru serving up some fries...;)

College is over rated :hiding:

My 1515/66 is working as a bouncer at a local $hit hole bar. Easily punishes those that get out of line, and has no trouble clearing the room after last call. The pay is mostly free drinks, and the only benefits are easy ladies, but the big guy is happy. :bassist:
