fEARless Shootoff F112 vs GK Neo 115

I tried an F215 about a year or so ago. While it can be like a studio monitor, it would give out whatever you put in. I was trying it with my GK 800RB and it sounded wonderful. Of course, I turned the highs off for that old school type of tone. It gave it in spades. That's why Don Barry said that I might be happier with the Dually but I can say that the F215 was probably the best cab I've ever played through. So, if your amp produces a clinical clean tone, then the F cabs will reproduce that. If your amp produces a warm tubey tone, then that's what comes out. These are definitely high end cabs.

I have a hard time believing that lining was omitted to save cost. It's just too easy and cheap to throw in a teased out wad of pillow stuffing (which does produce an audible change). IME, fully lining them actually is detrimental to what I think of as the GK tone. However, that baked-in tone can be problematic if one is going for a 'clean' tone.

I'd like to see the F112 compared to the GK neo112. I've had the GK 112 for a few years now and have been impressed with the amount of sound it can put out while still sounding fat and clear. It sounds a lot closer to the F112 than the GK 115 does in the video, IME.

The GB cabs still have colour... just much, much more subtle IMO.

BTW if you liked the sound of that fEARless F112 you'll also like the fEARful 12/6. The fEARless cabs have somewhat tighter lows and a smoother high-mid but they can easily be EQ'd to sound like each other. Not that much of a difference. The 15/6 has the same similar tonal profile as well... but does sound bigger.

There's a guy not too far from me who has several GB cabs, I think a pair of 12/6/1 plus some others, who offered to let me try them.
Before I buy or build anything else, I am going to see if the offer still stands and try the cabs with a couple amps. The light weight, DIY, and ability to handle a lot of watts really appeals to me. But I am looking for a certain sound that I have only been able to find in really heavy cabs which I don't want...

An interesting comparison, for sure, but it's kind of "apples and oranges" as other posters have noted. If the F112 really costs twice as much as the GK115 Neo, I'd personally go for 2 of the GKs, for my "tone goals" and needs. Also -- is it just me, or did the various rattles and buzzes of the "slab" (sounds like it needs a good set up) sound more pronounced on the F112?

To bad they didn't EQ the G-K cab to sound best and then compare it with the F cab without changing the EQ instead of the other way around huh.:p

As a fEARful owner I will say these cabs (fEARless) do not hide anything. Fret buzz, bad technique, amp hum, etc. I myself dig their ability. Putting it against a GK cab was a bit of a mismatch. Nothing against GK cabs, for their price point I think there're a great cab. I have used and still do occasionally use GK amps. Great company no doubt. It all come down to your budget, volume and tonal goals, etc. I liked the fEARfuls because of the DIY aspect. The fearless although a slightly different animal is through authorized builder only which (justified)will raise the price tag. So an unfair fight? Maybe, but still will give a idea of what a fearless will sound like to those who cannot hear one in person.

That would be me. I have a pair of 12/6/1's, a '66, and a DuallyT. We can work something out and meet up at my practice space. Heck we could invite Dave Homer out and see what he has in his shop to bring.

Really Joe, you need to get over yourself on all this. This was an A/B in the simplest manor. If you dont like the results, by all means, please do your own. If that doesnt appeal to you, do you have anything of substance to offer to this conversation?

It's not just you. These are solo flavors anyway. If solo tone is important to someone great, my personal needs are more towards what is heard out front in the mix. That is usually no PA support. I liked the sound of the F112 better with the DB (that is what it was "EQ" for) but I am unsure how that would translate out front. It would "look" better at my amp being able to crank the master up some with the less efficient cab. Something I can't do with my current cabs. It was demonstrated you need more power to do less ;)

That sounds like something I would like to do, and I appreciate the offer. I am kind of leaning toward the DIY mode so the Fearfuls would probably be something that would interest me more than the Fearless. I have a couple decent cabs now, but just am after a certain sound. But I would still be interested to see how a Fearless 112 sounds with a couple different amps and a P Bass. Are there any audio clips posted of that cab with this setup?

Not that I know of. I have a passive p-bass, so I could do some clips with it, my 12/6/1, and any of my amps.

+1. Yep. G-K left it out of some cabs by design for best sound and when I tried adding some it screwed up the sound so I removed it. And surely its not worth charging twice as much for a cab either.

I have 2 GK Neo 15's and really like them. The Neo 15's definitely have a high mid bump but it can be EQ'ed out. This is the first video I have seen of these Fearful/Fearless cabs and I think they sound fantastic! I would love to hear a 2x15 version of these cabs! Anyone have any clips?!

Hell I'd like to see one compared to an Acoustic 408, and a 215D with black widows; the list goes on.
The "not a FF fan" statement is crap. This kind of equipment is too expensive to buy to satisfy idle curiosity. As you can tell allot of them in use were bought by people who were mostly convinced before they tried them.
That's how purchasing goes with anything rare/boutique/custom.
There is allot of faith in the product before it arrives.
At this point Joe you are just repeating yourself.
