Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that you EQ'd the amp for the F112 and then expected the GK to sound good with the same EQ settings. I would think that the knobs on the amp are meant for twiddling with different cabs.

Yes the voicing was set for how it likes to hear it with his F112 (don't know if his "flat" was flat or just "nooning" the EQ) and looky here this cab sounds different! Yep I hope so .

I have no dog in this one (I'm pretty skeptical of the Fearful super claims around these parts), and I own GK gear, but not sure I catch that argument- is it that quantity is better than quality? Luckily I don't buy on budget (although I did for years)- I wouldn't want two of the same cab that I found inferior to another, just because it's cheaper (this is again supposing you find the fearless superior which I'm not quite saying either). Either way- dig the clip!!

They fit a section of the market. But IMHO, a "Quality" cab is lined.

Have you compared the GK NEO212-II to any other 2X12s? I've only gigged that cab once and thought it was fine- it was a backline and seemed ok. Wasn't a fan of the tone of the entire rig but I put that off on the amp (a GK MB of some sort). I'd love to get my hands on a set of those and run a solid 4 hour gig- at that price and weight I'd be sold if they sound as good as the rest of the package

Nice clip! I listened to the clip through my laptop and Grado headphones. The difference between the two cabs (double bass) was striking.

The F112 sounded much more realistic with respect to tone, smoothness and articulation on double bass.

The Neo 115 sounded honky as the reviewer stated. It was far from subtle.

The greater sensitivity of the Neo 115 was quite obvious. While it might not be as much as their specs would indicate (94 vs 99 db/w/m), it was at least 3 db. While the F112 can handle more power than the Neo 115, it will need to in order to equal it's spl. Since the difference was 'obvious' (certainly far from subtle) the sensitivity difference is at least 3 db. The F112 will need something like twice as much power to equal the spl of the Neo 115.

I did not hear anything suggesting the onset of fartout of the Neo 115, as was suggested by the reviewers. They could have been right: I just couldn't hear it.

The difference between the two cabs nearly vanished with the Jazz bass. Evidently, the Jazz does not have enough frequency content in the range where the cabs differ to make that difference audible. Slab bass is the targeted use for the Neo 115 (what it was designed for). While I really enjoyed the sound of the double bass I was much more interested in the comparison using the Jazz, because I play 'slab' bass. For this use, based on this clip, the neo 115 looks like a winner because there was minimal tone difference, the 115 was louder, and the 115 costs less than half as much. The Neo 115 would seem to be an excellent value for the 'slab' bassist.

The value of the 'comparison' depends to a large extent on the claimed flatness of the amps frequency response. A flat setting was claimed, but the basis for that was not demonstrated. Were the tone controls just 'nooned' or was some other setting used? IME, GK amps are far from flat with the tone controls nooned.

I have no dog in this either. I can tell you that I've tried the F215 and thought it was an incredible cab. I haven't played a GK neo 15.

However, in this vid, what caught my attention was when he switched to the EB and then proceeded to turn down the "presence" knob. On a GK amp, the presence knob is pretty much the mid suck knob.

Interesting- I hear a huge difference with the J Bass, maybe even more than with the double bass. Then again, I spend 95% of my time on electric so my ears lie there

The mid switch on the 112 wasn't doing anything I could hear, but I was definitely hearing a difference between the two cabs on the J, possibly even more pronounced than with the upright. That's a pretty noticeable midrange peak the 115 comes with, and not the type that I look for in a cab, personally.

If I didn't have the amp power, but had an EQ that could dial that peak out, the 115 would definitely be worth a shot.

It's the "Contour" knob that cuts mids. The "Presence" knob on a 1001RB is boost only, voiced slightly higher than the "High" EQ knob.

It's been a few years since I've owned a 1001RB-II. So the presence was adding highs to the EQ. I stand corrected.

I am going to check out the GK neo with a precision bass. That "honky" sound is close to what I am looking for. The F cab sounds like a studio monitor to me. It sounds like something I would run the whole band through, not my bass. If clear and clean and loud is what you are looking for without any color then the F cab has it in spades.


I like the "personality" of the Neo cab...
