Funny, indeed. I’m exactly the opposite; long before I joined Talkbass I sold both a Tobias 5 and a Stingray 5, two basses that sounded really great, because I just wasn’t comfortable with the narrow string spacing. In recent years I’ve actually become more tolerant of variations than I used to be.

I went the opposite way, as I got older I was less tolerant of different necks and scale lengths, that why most of basses are either Lakland or Mike Lull.;)
Its one of the reasons I've been thinking of the Sandberg Stingray style bass, the have the length and spacing of my other basses. its all Juliaplaysgroove fault too, I saw a YouTube of her just killing with her band with a MM bass, lit a fire.;)

For me, its more than just string spacing. I had a Sadowsky Modern (24 fret)..didnt like the chunky neck or the reach. Im not young and it messed up my muscle memory. Sure, with time would get used to it but when I picked back up my Stingray or jazz bass, it was like a relief... I ended up returning the Sad....

Most Sadowsky’s have 21 fret necks.

Yes and I am tempted to try one of these Vintage M/J models, I bet the reach is more in line with the Stingray/Jazz. But 3.5K is alot of cash for a European model and I hate the buying/sending back process if its not what you expect. Wish I lived closer to Sweetwater.....

No, there's no need for an interim bass unless it's so good you decide you don't want the Metroline.
