Its like breaking up with a woman! Once you dump her, dont expect any acknowledgement, if she starts dating again, or gets married dont expect to get mentioned in the wedding program!! accept that you left & move on, would you mention them on your album or SM page. If You started something New?!?

It happens. A friend enlisted me to play on a track he had just written. I recorded my part and programmed some drums for him, sent it back to him and the following day he puts it up on social media with no mention of me at all. All I can say is I won't be doing that again. You don't know about people until they pull a stunt like this. Best to just take the lesson and move on.

I was in a band with a talented Lead guitarist, he joined a more established band( they were giging).Before, we were working on songs for a demo. Of around 6 songs I wrote all the basslines and the hook for about half ( 3 of 6) of them! there was never an agreement about writing though. He left the other band or got replaced. And proceeded to record those songs for "his" demo!and handed it out to everyone! it was before social Media, so it was just to his close friends! I was concerned because it had turned out really well & got a little "Buzz" with my parts intact! there wasnt much I could really do accept complain & tell any one who'd listen. "I Wrote the Hooks" on his demo! He got upset ,but did acknowledge it, but of course NOTHING ever Happened or developed into much! except it left a bad taste in everyones mouth!! Things were never quite the same between us! He went on to record many more Demos & never asked for my input again!

To further your analogy, it's like if you broke up with a woman, but you had kids, and the woman's new man wanted to adopt them.

Unless it is your own unique signature tone (not just generic DI'd flat boring run-of-the-mill invisible bass hum), or if the recording contains some unique basslines that actually add to the songs, I wouldn't worry about it.

Being "pissed off about it for a good long while" won't change. I'm still pissed off about a former bandmate who copyrighted songs that we all wrote together and the rest of us got no credit. I'll NEVER be friends with that person again.

And BTW and FWIW I didn't mention, and wouldn't mention or recommend, hiring a lawyer. All I would do is ask for credit. All he can do is say no. At that point nothing can be lost. If he re-records the bass part, so what?

I played a part at a friend’s once on one of his songs. He wanted his record to be a true solo effort, so he took his bass and “copied” my part. When I heard the part he played (he was a phenomenal guitarist, but a hack at bass), I had no desire whatsoever to be credited with any part of it.

Sound to me like the OP was arguably constructively terminated - i.e., forced out:

This happens a lot in originlas bands. You decided to leave the band and they found another bass player.. time to move on.

I played bass for an original and cover power trio for 5 years. We played out occasionally but got together almost every week to rehearse and work/write/record. The guitarist mainly introduced the lines for the originals and suggested ideas for bass and drum parts, but by and large we each contributed our own parts and added our arrangement ideas. By that point we'd completed 6 or 7 of our own songs, mastered and ready to release. Then covid hit.
Important background: the guitar player and I go back over 40 years, to high school and jazz band, then beginning to work together in a few fairly successful groups, again with original music an emphasis. But we never actually took off.
Early on in the recent band the two of us discovered we were very far apart on the political spectrum, but after a brief text battle we agreed it was best to focus on music and leave those things out. There were some revisiting instances over the years, always by the guitarist, but I chose to not engage.
When everything closed down I decided for many reasons, personal and scientific, it was best to wait it out and then start up when we all felt comfortable again. I was met with resistance to that decision, laced with theories and downright bs. I decided to make the heart wrenching choice to leave the group. That was a year ago.
They have just recently found a replacement for me, which I expected. They are moving to finish the album and have released several of the cuts on social media. But my trouble is I haven't been acknowledged as the low end contributor. The drummer is referenced, the guitarist, but no bass player.
So my question is, should I expect any acknowledgement, or just accept, since I left, that I will be ignored?

i would’t expect it, unless you own the music which has been copywritten and published. I wouldn’t expect renumeration on your work either if that’s not the case.

By them leaving you unaccredited, they are being petty. Not cool. I'd get over it though unless the release is commercial. If that happens, you deserve to be paid for you work. Is your name included as a writer? Copyrights? If you're left out monetarily.....get a lawyer.

They asked you if you wanted to play. You said no. They tried to convince you to change your mind. You said no.

They are moving on with their lives, for better or worse.

You should move on with your life, for better or worse.
