Even though I already had a "main band", in my early 20s I was also rhythm guitarist in my friend's band (friend was the singer/lead guitar), which happened to have a female bassist. She was pretty good at bass, and overall an a decent person. But she was flakey (missed about half the practices), and very dramatic. Her personal life was a disaster, breaking up with a new guy every week or so. She was pretty attractive, so she got away with a lot more than a guy would have. She ended up sleeping with 3 out of 4 guys in our band (sadly, myself included... didn't know she had been with my friends/bandmates at that point, or maybe it happened before them. I am a proud upholder of the bro code).
Not being sexist at all. Nor am I saying that all women are flakey, dramatic and sleep with their bandmates. This girl just happened to be kind of a mess in her 20's. We're in our mid 30's now, and I still consider her a good friend. I've never played with a female musician since, nor have I played with anybody except the same 3-4 other guys in the past decade. I'd be open to it, now that we're all older and wiser.
