Fender 50th Anniversary Precision Bass

I have one too.

You might be interested in these (from my files).

This is from Fender's "Frontline Extra 2001" (©2001 FMIC):

Well:

I USED to have one of the 50th anniversary P's (bought used). had it for about a year before getting a used 2002 Glaub. The Fender sounded brighter to me and not quite as "gutsy" and grindy as the Fralin in the Glaub.

over time, the Fender got played less and less so it went. I kept the Glaub until I got a BG5....

I will have to say that the Fender was well put together and, overall, was good quality. I just preferred the fell and sound of the Glaub.....have a BG5 LOG bass on order (butterscotch, black guard and black blocked maple neck) so i will get " the look" again!!!! (which i really liked!)

Sorry togo OT. But how do the Glaub & the Fender compare??

Thanx BP. Appreciate that. :bassist:

I had quite a few Glaubs to compare it to actually. Glaubs are nice basses but IMO nothing does a Precision like a Fender. That aside an older Glaub with the Fralin will be much more mellow and vintage sound than the Anniversary Precision which is louder and more agressive. The newer Glaubs with the Lakland pickups are more modern but don't compete with the Fender. If I get another Glaub it will be an older one with a Fralin. But as it stands I have three Precision (including this one) and no Glaubs.

I just got one of these in a trade last night and I stumbled across this thread while trying to figure out what it is. I'm actually pretty stoked. Unfortunately one of the previous owners switched out the pickguard, so now I need to track down one of these anodized aluminum ones. I don't think this is going to be an easy task. If anyone comes across one, definitely get in touch.

According to the shipping scales at my job, mine weighs in at 9lbs, 8.8oz. I can't wait to hear it plugged in at practice tonight.

I swear to GOD!!! This is exactly the kind of P-bass I want. I guess I'll have to be satisfied with the Squier version of this color scheme that's coming out.

And a few weeks later ... I got the Squier and I'm really happy that finally got a P-bass in this color scheme. It's a good bass overall, but of course the best thing would have been to have the actual Fender 50, but that wasn't gonna happen. It's all good.
