Fender 50th Anniversary Precision Bass

I'm curious to see its final sale price.

It ended up selling for $996 shipped. Not bad, but I thought that it would gone for more, but most people prob don't know how hard it is to come by one of these in that condition. I love mine dearly and I can say that without a doubt, it's the best P I've owned in the last 10+ years. I've read nothing but glowing reviews with these. I highly suspect that the neck and bodies for these were hand picked and that these were assembled with extra care.

Mine is very light, the grain is amazing, neck pocket VERY tight, fret work is perfect, super straight neck with very low, buzz free action. It's simply superb. I'm completely convinced that these were made at a higher quality level than the American Standard P of that time.

Wish I had one. The closest I could get was my Squier VM P (which is a good bass in it's own right.)

I picked up one of these from JD at Corner Music in Nashville in 2002. I had just seen Standing In The Shadows of Motown, and decided I really needed a P (and I was in Nashville, after all). They had just received a bunch of Skyline Bob Glaubs, which is what I assumed I would leave with. I played all of the them (7 or 8, as I recall) and had settled on the one I liked best when JD brought out the Fender 50th. It had just come in used, with no case and no certificate, but in mint condition. I played it and fell in love. I had them install a Raven Labs Retro-fit P-Bass pre-amp. I can't imagine being happier with another P. I have brought with as many as 5 other basses for sessions, and never gotten past it once the engineer hears it. Mine, like the others in the thread is butterscotch with a black pickguard, and the 2001 neck plate.

I had a 50th Anniversary PBass Blonde for about a year. It was a great bass. I made the mistake of locking it in a dressing over night and came back the next day and it was gone. I have been looking for another one. Anyone know of someone wanting to sell one? I had a 60th for awhile but it just wasn't the same.

Thanks

i have done a lot of research into the 2001 50th Anniversary PBass .
First off there are other versions of a 50th anniversary fender basses out there but they are from the 1996 50th anniversary of Fender as a company. Only the blonde 2001 is the anniversary of the 50th year of fender making the p bass. there are also 2 models of the bass one is a tele p bass (see stings bass)that basses msrp was around the 3500.00 ballpark. the other pbass which is in the photos on this thread had a msrp of 1541.00. I have seen them go for as much as 2500 and as little as 800 i got mine in 2003 of of ebay for 870.00. according to the spec people i have talked to at fender have told me that when they built and designed the bass they took all the great things about the p bass from the last 50 years and put it in this bass. right now is a good time to find one as the prices are down due to a poor economy. also fender has recently made two new basses both are string thru ash jazz and pbass here is a link to the jazz
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender-american-standard-hand-stained-ash-jazz-bass the pbass may be a little harder to find but here is a link to it as well
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender-american-standard-hand-stained-ash-precision-bass the custom shop version of the tele Invalid Link Removed
oh and they made over 400 but not more than 500 lol

The fitty thread lives on..
Just bought a nice one and it's on the way. It is scheduled to arrive on my B-Day!
Not much out there about these, I pretty much got schooled here on TB with this thread and a few others. I anticipate a special instrument. This one just set up by Mike Lull

Congratulations. I bought one new, and am convinced they pulled out all the stops on it in terms of quality control. That said, I was a little miffed when that "special" butterscotch color became standard on the American Series a year or two later. My 50th, though, is much nicer than any American Series bass I've ever played, of any color. I'm sure you'll love yours!

I just bought one of these and the guy selling it said it originally came in a black case and he upgraded the case to tweed (with the plush red/orange lining). The press releases from the time state that they came with tweed cases, but I've seen them with both versions of tweed case (the red/orange lining and the yellow/orange crushed velvet type). It also only had a standard hang tag with s/n Z1014550, which seems similar to the other 2001 50th anniversary P-basses out there, but not the original certificate.

Can anyone explain which cases came stock with the 50th anniversary precision basses and did they come with hang tags as well as the certificate? Thanks

.. these always came with a tweed case, and it does appear that there is a slight discrepancy in the color of the lining, although both seem to be legitimate ... exactly as described, one is more red/orange, and the other is more yellow/orange ... lighting can also play tricks in the many photos as well ... there also seems to be a bit of a difference in 'shade' of the tweed, with one more 'yellowish', the other slightly 'browner' ...Fender description is also a bit vague, only reading 'Vintage tweed case' in specs ...

... in any case (pun intended ;)), certificate of authenticity was ALWAYS included when the bass left the factory ... and FWIW, official Fender description of the bass also reads as 'about 476 made' ...

This is also supposed to be a 50th anniversary P. I think it means it was manufactured in 96'? It looks like a 57' reissue IMO. Any of you P bass aficionados now anything about them?

The 50th Anniversary P-Bass only comes in butterscotch. There were 400 made. 200 for sale in the US and 200 for export, and that is not the original 1951replica. Fender did reissue an exact replica of the '51, and the color is also butterscotch. I do not know how many of those were made, but I do know that the price was significantly higher.

I know this thread is old but... Any of you know what value this is? My dad passed away unexpectedly and this was one of the instruments he left behind. My research says fender anniversary 50 Bass (maybe 2011-2012) only because that is the sticker on it. Otherwise it is unmarked.

necrothread arise!
I'm looking at a 50th anniversary fender p for a decent price but it's an aged olympic (yellow) color with the Fender sticker on the back of the headstock. per seller it's a 1996. just curious if this was a legit color/combo. from this thread it looks like the 96's were all that natural with visible woodgrain(?) or was that just one of the "50th" models they offered.
Also, are they pretty much on par with any other "American Standard" Precision (electronics, build quality) or are they like the Highway One series where they used the Korean stuff and just assembled them in the US?
