Fender 50th Anniversary Precision Bass

I bought mine from a Canadian seller (not a store) about ten years ago. Great bass, I love it - Fender did a really nice job with this one. I called Fender a couple of years or so ago and the tech rep confirmed it was a small production run, around 500 instruments, and he said they took a lot of care with this anniversary model. Its a keeper . . .

I just bought one of these and the guy selling it said it originally came in a black case and he upgraded the case to tweed (with the plush red/orange lining). The press releases from the time state that they came with tweed cases, but I've seen them with both versions of tweed case (the red/orange lining and the yellow/orange crushed velvet type). It also only had a standard hang tag with s/n Z1014550, which seems similar to the other 2001 50th anniversary P-basses out there, but not the original certificate.

Can anyone explain which cases came stock with the 50th anniversary precision basses and did they come with hang tags as well as the certificate? Thanks

Best of my knowledge, they all were shipped in the tweed cases and with hang tag, and certificate - mine did - and this was verified in a phone call with Fender some years back; he said they made a small run (450 to 500 instruments, couldn't remember) and said yes, they went the extra mile with this model. I feel lucky, mine is a great instrument, a definite keeper - very happy owner

Rise from your grave.

Are these really all that great? I found one locally for $1800. Looks like it has never been outside of the sellers house, excellent condition. I'll go check it out on Monday or Tuesday if you are telling me they are Custom Shop quality.

I had moved mine along at one point when I was mainly only playing Lakland Glaubs and it was sitting in the case. I have regretted it for years and finally have fixed the situation. I have one coming to me this week and am extremely pumped. Who else still has one?

I'd prob reach for the Glaub too. That Black and Maple in the early posts looks killer.
I just replaced that Skyline Glaub as well. I had a major purge when I moved to playing guitar pretty much exclusively. Sadly its not black/maple though. I really wanted it to be a 2002 or 2003 Skyline so that means you have to jump on what you can get. I hope to find an early black/maple one again some day but I am happy with whats coming.

That said...more 50th anniversary talk. There has to be some more people here with them.
