nut width- I've no idea- but it's certainly no jazz neck. Looking at the original image now, I would say that mine is a different model. It's a fender Japan 70s reissue. As far as I know Fender Japan operates fairly independently of Fender in the states, has higher QC standards and has been churning out rough diamonds, under the radar for eons.

Hope not. My order was approved and all but I called to try and find out how long it was back ordered. I spoke to a girl who was really nice but not the sharpest tool in the shed. She kept putting me on hold...finally after a ten minute conversation she asked me if the bass was a four or five string. This is the last time I will try and buy something from them. I feel they screwed up on the price and tried to backtrack.

Well, the bass is not on the GC website and I just spoke with a (fairly competent sounding) sales person, he could not find the item in his system. This stinks. :spit: I was ready to pull the trigger. My only quandry was deciding between Oly White and Sunburst.

Sales rep said he would complete a special order interest form and have that department contact me regarding availability, price, etc.

Anyone got any other ideas? Coupon code "roundout" only good until today. :bawl:

Like I said before...I suspect somebody screwed up big time and now they are backtracking. Why else would they cancel the backorder? I placed my order late morning two days ago. I got an email shortly thereafter saying the order was approved. That night I checked the order status and is said backordered. Then yesterday I received an email saying the order was cancelled. On the phone they were polite but completely useless. Tons of excuses but no clear answer. I told the rep that if I did see it again on their website, I would be getting the discounted price.

The coupon was an offer of $ 75 bucks off any purchase of $ 350 or more I believe. From what I understand the coupon code didn't work when you made the fender bass purchase online but that you could call them directly and ask for the rebate. Of course my order being cancelled totally screwed me out of both the rebate and more importantly the bass.....
If you actually did manage to purchase one and they took your money, call them and ask for the rebate.

I suspect he has the pb 70 reissue, which I have as well. The newer model seems to have a slightly larger block and bound neck. I will compare the two when (or rather if) I receive the new one, that I ordered yesterday (backordered).

the MIJ 70s style Ps offered in Japan for a decade or so don't have the bound and blocked neck. The ones with a - US designation had US pickups, many came standard with Bad Ass Bridges. The lowest end ones were basswood, the 'higher' end, non US electronics were alder as are the 'US pu equipped ones'

most of the MIJ stuff is around that $800 and up price point...like the Geddy, the Sting and the 51 RI....

I have one - it's definitely MIJ (as opposed to CIJ - they switched back a while ago). In Japan they offered one in black (with maple fretboard and black binding and blocks) a few years ago - the ones that are getting talked about now are part of the Invalid Link Removed. It's weird, if you try and find it on the regular website you can't (or at least I haven't been able to) but there is a Invalid Link Removed.

Anyway, I like it a lot. I love the look, the feel, it's light, and it sounds great! Gonna test it out at rehearsal this weekend. Oh yeah, I got the white one.

You know those GC employees who jump in the thread, usually when someone is badmouthing GC? I wish one would jump in this one and tell me how to get my '70s Precision at the discounted rate mentioned earlier, or if it's really even possible.

Maybe I just need to order some vinyl black blocks from Masterbass!.
