Fender A-B-C Necks

Just to add to the confusion, the original A width was 1-7/16" at the nut from the introduction of the Jazz bass until at least well into the 70s. Not sure when they switched it to 1.5"

Baloney to the above. I own a 72 Precision all original with a Factory "A" neck. As a matter of fact you could specify any neck width on any bass you ordered new back in the 60's.

I had a '72 and a '75, both were 1-7/16" at the nut...measure yours.

In fact, the advertised nut width on the Jazz bass was 1-7/16" as documented in a reproduction of the original Jazz Bass ad in "Fender The Sound Heard 'Round The World" By Richard Smith.

I carry a 2 inch rule in my wallet for just such measurements and I've verified it for myself many times.

One could order any of the stock nut width sizes, A, B, C, and I suppose D though I've never seen a D width neck on a bass.

Forgot to say...I've also never seen a factory original B or C nut width neck on a Jazz bass.
