Fender Aerodyne Club!

Have they changed the Aerodyne pickups from Yosemite to standard? Or is Yosemite their standard? My 2019 Aerodyne has Yosemite but when looking on Sweetwater this is what they show for 2021
  • Middle Pickup:Standard Precision Bass Split Single-coil
  • Bridge Pickup:Standard Jazz Bass Single-coil

You got me curious, so I went through the specs of all the Jazz basses currently listed on Fender’s website, and the only Jazz I could find with «standard» pickups was the Aerodyne. So I feel pretty confident that the current Aerodynes do not have Yosemite pickups, or Fender would have listed them as such. However, as for exactly what «standard» means, I couldn’t tell you.

If you've had it in for repair that many times, it sounds like the problem isn't the wiring, but either the pot or the pickup itself. Whichever it is, you have plenty of options available to you when it comes to replacements;

1. You could keep the sound you already have by getting a set of replacement pickups and pots. The Stratosphere has pickup sets and pickup+pots sets from a couple of 2021 Aerodynes.

2. You could sift through several Precision bass pickup demos on YouTube, zero in on a brand and model you really dig and go from there.

3. You could start by replacing the entire wiring harness. If the problem persists, then you'll know for sure it's a problem with the pickup. On a side note, if it were mine, I'd get something that lets me switch between parallel and series modes to get even more capability out of the 'Dyne.

Personally, if I really like the feel and looks of a bass, a faulty pickup or pot is not enough of an issue to get rid of the entire instrument. That sounds kinda like a "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" sitch to me. ;)

I have owned a handful of Fender Basses: Mustang, Mark Hoppus, and American Professional Jazz and by far the Aerodyne is my favorite to play, listen to and look at. The tone from those Yosemite pickups are so badass!

Don’t sweat it. I dont hold a tremendous amount of love for Fender or GC. My Aerodyne is my only fender bass. I’ve looked at others, but Fender hasn’t built much else that made me open my wallet.

I typically buy instruments used so I don’t ever expect warranty service, and I typically go to a respected independent luthier if the repair is something I don’t want to tackle myself.

Agreed. The Fender Yosemite pickups, along with it's Greasebucket tone control circuit, should only come standard with their American Performer Series instruments.

John, is it possible someone upgraded the pickups before you bought it? I mean, you say it's a 2019 model, but you bought it recently enough that your Guitar Center has been doing fixer-upper work on it. Now you have me wondering if was either an NOS unit (New Old Stock) or if had been briefly owned by someone first who tried upgrading the pickups. If that was the case, then yours would be classified as an "Open Box" item, which usually brings a discounted price with it. I, for one, would definitely ask a sales associate if someone else owned the instrument before you and make them confirm that you are the original owner.

All that or some sales-monkey got their wires crossed about what kind of electronics an Aerodyne packs. :wacky:

Seriously though, believe it or not, I only have one bass with an Aerodyne body and that's my first-ever. Sure, I've cannibalized a bunch of Aerodynes for their necks, but I've gone out of my way to only have two P/J's.

Funny that you should mention it, though, 'cuz I'm strongly considering swapping out Projekt Blue's Aerodyne neck with this one. Visually speaking, I think it'll be a nice match.

I purchased new from GC back in 2019. Paid full price so I hope it wasnt an open box or returned unit. Fender has a 2 year warranty so their certified fender tech is the only one qualified to touch it. My 2 year warranty ran out in September and has been back twice after, they are still trying to find root cause.

Let us know if you're ever considering some kind of modification or upgrade. You'll get a ton of advice.

I could swear my has Yosemite pups. I remember looking on Sweetwater's site for the Aerodyne specs trying to find out what type of strings were on it to get for my hoppus bc wanted to minic its feel n tone. The Chromes I had on it just wasnt cutting it anymore.
