Kind of curious if the previous owner is a member on this board. I bought it used (sight unseen even) from a guitar center, I think in upstate New York. Wouldn't have pulled the trigger on a used bass I haven't touched, except GC assured me I had 30 days to return it to the local chapter. This thing has awesome upgrades - hipshot tuners (w drop d) badass bridge, bass lines p-replacement and SCN j-replacement. But the most distinguishing feature is a crack in the headstock by the e-string tuning peg. I almost returned it, but Fred (y'all in San Diego know who I'm talking about) took it apart, assured me the headstock is stable, and reminded me it's worth more in parts than I paid for it.

Been playing it for the better part of last year and this thing kicks ass. I just want to know what happened to crack the headstock... Dropping it? Hammering too hard on the hipshot bushings?

Hmm... The bushings maybe- but they shouldn't have been hit that hard. I'm thinking dropping it.

So I know this is a little off topic but I've been saving up for an 8x10 stack but I am unsure which would work with the Aerodyne (locked between 2) would the Acoustic B800H and B810 do well? Or the Ampeg SVT? I was wondering if anyone had any experience with both

In all honesty- the 810E (Ampeg) is the holy grail of 810s, but I still think the GK NEO 412 is the best big cab out there. The Ampeg is super punchy with the closed back. The Acoustics aren't really voiced the way the Ampegs are, without the massive low mid bump. The Acoustics are way smaller and lighter, though.

Picked this up from a local pawn shop. It had electrical and setup issues and was therefore up for sale for a damn good price of $200. I got the guy to knock off the tax and toss in a fresh set of Rotosounds. According to the SN it's an '04/'05. The p'ups are Dimarzio's. There was some needed wire trimming and overall clean up in the cavity, but everything works now. I got a black Gotoh 201 bridge coming for it, this stock bridge is junk. The saddles dance all over if you dig in too hard near the bridge, and the saddle screws stick out too far and poke my hand. Overall though, I like it. Very light and comfortable and fantastic passive P/J tone.

As you can tell by my handle I'm a proud MusicMan owner and I've loved my Stingray for over 28 years but my shoulder does not. Finally bit the bullet on getting a second bass and I couldn't be happier. I followed the Club's advice and switched out the pups to a DM126 set (wow big difference in signal to noise ratio and tone) and got the Hipshot ultralights which makes the neck stay in the right spot and let's my hand concentrate on playing. I had Fred and company (The Repair Zone here in San Diego) install the hardware and do a proper set up. It plays like a dream. Played my first live rock gig last night and it was beyond expectation. And the guys loved the way it sounds and of course the way it looks. It sits in a different place in the mix than the Stingray but in a very good ...very ...um....Fender way. Now the only thing left is... stock bridge has got to go. It sounds fine but those "prickly pear" allen sockets bug me when I'm playing with a pick by the bridge. Would a Hipshot Type A be a better fit? or a Babicz bridge?

PS: could I kindly request a number?

Yup, you can have #57.

You'll have to put a shim under the bridge for anything but a Gotoh 201 for it to ground properly because the stock bridge sits in a rout on the body-the bridge would sit in the plate to get it level with the body. Personally, I prefer the Leo Quan Badass III, but it's difficult to find and also won't solve the problem with the set screws.

I absolutely detest the Babicz now that I've used one for a while. It caused my Jazz Bass to sound dark, and the same will happen if you get the Aluminum Hipshot. Get a Brass hipshot.

Thanks for the #. I must say that its hard to put this bass down. im sitting here writing this as fast as I can so I can get back to it :)

Seriously, this is a fantastic bass. I have a Road Worn jazz, a different animal tonally of course, that may take a back seat for awhile as well as my Ibanez SR490. Out of the box it was very close to being in tune and the intonation was also very close(based on a tuner pedal, not strobe so...)

Playing thru an HA3500 into a 4x10 with all settings flat I was instantly glad I had sprung for it. I don't have p-bass to compare to, so I can't say it definitively sounds like a P but the growl is there and I feel like its pretty close to one. The jazz pup, altho MAYBE a little weak, sounds good as well.

Still tweaking the setup as far as the action goes, still a little high for my taste, but plays well. The back of the neck feels great especially compared to my Road Worn. The RW is a great neck except the back starts to get a bit gummy after playing for awhile. Hardly a deal breaker but with the Aero theres none of that going on. Nice and smooth and no gum! :) Plus it only weighs 7lb 10oz. My RW runs 8.7 and the Ibby goes for 8.5 so this is a nice change for my back and shoulder.

Then, theres the looks. The black with cream binding, matching headstock and smoked hardware is killer. Online pics don't do it justice. Yeah it smudges like a mofo BUT a little wipe down after playing and it looks sharp all over again. Wondering what it would look like with some black strings :)

Must get back to it...need my fix :bassist::bassist::bassist:

I'll see about uploading a better pic when I can get enough daylight. My interior lighting stinks so I can't get a decent white balance inside. Plus the bass is so damn shiny that the colors keep getting washed out by the flash. It certainly doesn't help that my camera is kinda crappy, despite boasting "12 megapixels".

But yeah, they look pretty sharp on an Aerodyne. They almost disappear into the black and rosewood-brown. It's almost a bit of a handicap, what with no dots or inlays. But in the long run, I think it'll help me sharpen my "muscle memory" along the fretboard, as well as forcing me to rely on the side-dots instead of leaning over the neck to see my position.

Yeah that looks good!:hyper: What brand are those and how do you like the tone? Going to order some Rotosounds and want to try some others too.
