I just recently bought a used "non-export" Aerodyne off the bay (supposed to be delivered today) and I'm wondering if all the models are string through body and if Fender discontinued the smoke colored knobs, what's the next best thing for replacements...just slapping on a set of black Jazz knobs?

I scored a non-export recently as well, but won't have it in my hands until late next week. I believe it's Dolphin Grey, but the seller and the pics both say it looks more Jade Green. Anyone know if they ever ran some alternate color batches, or if maybe there is some variation in the Dolphin Grey from year to year?

Not all of the non-export basses have the smoked chrome hardware. Most of the non exports sans pickgaurd have regular chrome. So I would just go for some chrome knobs

Its your bass of course but for me, I would want to keep with the understated theme of the Aerodyne. Hipshot makes some high quality machined steel knobs before that have milled grooves that carry black O-rings. that would be cool.

Or perhaps teh ebony knobs? I've bought from these guys before, they seem to have allot to offer to someone looking to modd their instrument.

Send us pix when you are done.

Some pics of my dolphin gray j and my amber p bass. I'm not sure if amber was the official color name. I have black pick guards on both of them... Still have the original white ones laying around i just think the black looks way more slick. Eventually I want the black smoked chrome j but I'm currently more then happy with these two. I haven't been gasin for a new bass for some time.

Bass arrived today, I love the aerodyne just not this one, taking back this weekend, bass appears to have been dropped, couple of good sized chips in the binding, lots of dings, overall poor condition , definitely gonna look for another, anyone know the current price on these new

A new black export jazz will set you back $799 from all the major online retailers plus tax. That's also what local shops who have them in my area charge.

I own a dolphin grey and have seen two others. All the same color but for some reason they look different in color in pictures with each picture taken. Alot of people think they look silver at first glance. Great color though.
Just got mine and it's definitely not dolphin grey. Jade really is the closest Fender color match... though by their descriptions it might be that limited run "gun metal blue"?

I just picked up an trans-amber flamed/bound Aerodyne P-body on eBay. It's getting a Status Jazz neck, Joe Barden PJ set and a black pickguard.
Good ole' Stratosphere.

I've actually accumulated several P, J and PJ bodies that I'm going to give the Aerodyne treatment, but not with any of the standard Aerodyne colors... will definitely create some salivation problems when I post the pics here.

I didn't know there was a gunmetal blue run of aerodynes but im no expert. It would be cool if we could get pics of all the colors they made with the "official names." Post a picture of your full bass and not just the headstock. If it is gunmetal blue that would be cool to see. Either way congrats on a rad bass.:bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::bassist::cool:
